Fish (alt)

The word fish has a couple of meanings in poker. The first meaning is used when there is an unskilled player at the table. These players will often play very loose, betting on just about anything. The second meaning of fish in poker is when players (skilled or not) stays in a pot hoping to "catch" the cards needed to make a weak hand a strong hand.

It is considered bad table manners to call a weak player a fish to his face. However, it acceptable to ask another player if he or she is "fishing" for a particular card.
