Hi!

My name is "RicsiSpy". I'm in my early twenties and learning Computer Science at university. I have been playing poker since middle school and online nearly since the Black Friday. At the beginning I found that MTTs and SnGs were suitable for me, I won some private tournaments, but I never used a proper BRM and always lost or withdrawed my bankroll. Afterwards of don't playing online for months, started to play live MTTs for almost a year. Nowadays I'm back to play online, build up a bankroll with micro stakes 45-90-180 man regular speed MTTs, and aftert that when I was really proud of my roll, I spend all of that for MicroMillions buy-ins ... ( of course, I lost my money again ). At this moment I never spend enough time to improve my game, it is necessary to make changes in this. Since I'm an university student I don't have enough time for grind MTT's or SnGs, so I would like to swith to cash games. At 2NL I tried out zoom, after 250k hands my winrate was 3bb/100, then moved to regular tables, my winrate was -10bb/100 ... Played both FR and 6max, I feel that full ring tables are more comfortable for me, I'm too nity to play 6max. After a ~20 BI downsing at zoom I withdrawed my bankroll. After few weeks I won a bankroll at PokerTube twitch channel and started to play 6max, after 20k hands i have 3bb/100 winrate ... thats so sad. So now I'm planning to go back PokerStars and trying to build bankroll from 2NL zoom/regular CG. May there will be a "My poker journey" section about it.

Finally, I feel sorry about my english grammar. My lips are sealed

Dutchness: Hi all!

Don't think I have officially introduced myself before. My name is 'Dutchness'. Obviously from Holland but lived thein Southern California for the last 6 years. I had a dream and followed it in 2009. Last year I moved back to Europe. I have been playing fulltime for over 6 years. Never worked really hard but poker provided me with a great life with a lot of freedom. I have been having a really hard time at poker lately. I am fckn not giving up since I would just hate to abandon this lifestyle. I have started studying my preflop game using HEM. I am planning on to keep studying besides just playing, to become a winning player again, so I can keep following my dreams in life.

It's hard at times, but I am trying to embrace this journey called 'life' and am confident that I will end on the right side very soon again.

Thanks for reading and I will keep you guys updated if interested! :)

Nice intro!

Where do you prefer Cali or Netherlands? What are the perks/negatives of them both?

I like the fact that I grew up in Europe and was taught some different values than people seem to have in the LA/OC area. I feel like I appreciate certain things more because of it.

I love Southern California. It probably has the best climate in the world. I love the diversity in people. You can find any culture you can think of there. That also means you can find all the food you can think of there and often it's very authentic. There is so much to do, a good friend of mine calls California "A playground for adults" Smile

I lived close to San Diego, LA and Las Vegas (and even San Fran was not too far). So a great location for weekend getaways and roadtrips.

As far as Holland goes...my family is here and as everyone who experienced living far away from family, it can feel lonely at times. So I enjoy having them close again. For some reason living in Holland feels comfortable, that may have to do because most people are pleased with being average. An average house, average job, average income, average car, it's all good. People seem to be ok with that, so there is less pressure (and stress). I lean more towards the American way of thinking but that is because I can handle it since I still have my 'European' values. I like to spend money that I own, not spend money that I don't own and then figure out a way to pay back the bank Smile
A nice balance between the two mindsets is probably most +EV.

I am actually moving to Malta next month to work super hard on my poker game. It will be my last shot but am super confident that this is going to help me become successful at poker again. I am very excited to reach that point!

Hi all, I have been made aware of this site by pokervip member Russ.

My name is Paul and I am a serious recreational player focusing on £20nl - £50nl cash games on Sky Poker.

I'm not a typical poker regular. I play a lot of hours per month (upwards of 75 hours usually) but I don't play a high volume. I have a low volume/high winrate poker philosophy and believe that poker can provide an income stream for recreational players without players forcing themselves to grind themselves to dust.

Too many players come into poker from a fun player point of view and quickly get consumed by the common consensus that you can only succeed at poker if you turn it from being a hobby you enjoy into a hard grind that effectively turns you into a min wage slave for the sites by grinding 10's of 1000's of hands, paying more rake than you actually make for yourself.

I believe there is another way for recreational players and I try to recreate a live game feel when I play and hope that eventually, poker might swing back from where it is now and make itself more recreational player friendly again.

I have recently started streaming on twitch on RegiTimePoker and I'm trying to create a really friendly community where we can share stories and thoughts without fear of being trolled on forums for not conforming to the modern way of doing things.

I have joined this site on the recommendation of Russ and hope to meet more like minded people to share experiences with. I look forward to getting to know some of you (particularly recreational players) much better over the coming weeks/months.

Soooooo interesting you say this as i actually saw your stream last night. WP on the branding as it stands out when looking through the thumb nails. Also i am a big lover of Sky Poker so that drew me in. How many viewers did you get?

Russ has been a valued member for a long time so thanks bro for spreading the word.

I do a lot of work with Twitch streamers both for our channel and 3rd parties. Add me on Skype: jon_pokervip. We can maybe work something into your stream which will benefit both you and the viewers.

Keep up the good work!

I got into double figures for the first time last night (only been streaming for 3 days or so) and managed to maintain double figures for around two hours which was very pleasing.

Russ is typical of the kind of player I enjoy the company of. An enthusiastic recreational player, keen to improve but not to the point of obsession. He's a top fella and it's always a genuine pleasure to spend time with in Skype.

I wasn't aware just how huge this site is. I'm going to lose hours exploring it over the coming days!

No worries. Both yourself, the PokerVIP community as a whole and Paul have been just the best companions to have over the last year as I got back into poker.

I know Regitime will add a fresh voice to the site. Look forward to the posts.

I think you'll find that this community is much friendlier than most others. We have many users from many different countries in our community and your English shouldn't be a problem. No need to feel self-conscious about it:)
