How do you see the future of poker?

Posted 9 years agoEdited 9 years ago

There has been a lot of discussion about the future of poker in last years, after the big poker boom has faded away. As far as I know, the number of participans in the big tournaments like EPT or WSOP has been raising constantly in last 10 years like the prize money as well, so poker as a game is not dead. How about online poker? I suppose the amount of players is slowly going down, but do you see poker rooms marketing in your area? I remember the times of poker boom in around 2005 when you were able to see WPT broadcasts from the tv there in Finland, and about everyone had at least tried texas holdem in home games or online. These days almost nobody talks about poker. Do you think that poker rooms will advertise more aggressively in the future and atract new players? Is it a problem, that Pokerstars has grown so big and has no real contest? The good part is that most of the serious player play there, and therefore they stay away from really juicy sites. Do you think that more sites should start to ban tracking softwares? The sites are in difficult spot, because the multitabling regulars who use HUDs generate a lot of rake, and therefore they are very profitable customers to poker rooms.

I don't think poker is going to change much tbh and will just continue to grow. The problem is regulations but with Stars now in New Jersey this shows real signs that America is possible again and if that happens the game will boom bigger and harder than ever before.

I think small sites will start to shine tbh. Unibet and Tony Bet spring to mind. They both have very good teams behind them, plenty of money to spend and give a shit about the poker economy

I think HUDs will eventually be outlawed as will many other softwares but i think this is good for the game as it evens the playing field a little bit or so the rooms think.

The thing with Tony bet and Unibet is there software. Stars and full tilt (imo) are so much better.
Us is a must!

I use a HUD and have done for most part of my online experience however I think heading into the future I think it's a must to do the following on every single site:
No HUD software
Stop bum hunting
No more than 6 tables per site

This would see the recreationals coming back to the Internet massively as they think the sites are rigged anyway.
Let's face it, playing with a HUD against the newbies is almost (dare I say it) like cheating!😵
It's so easy to identify the recs and there witnesses.

HUD's and hand histories, and even maybe dealer messages must go, so that there is no way anyone can use bots. Bots are the biggest issue on most sites I think, and they will get better and better. And yes, table selecting / bum hunting is just brutal atm.

Do you really not rate their software? I tired out TonyBet and have to say it was pretty glorious!

The future of online poker is a bleak one, i believe. At its current state, it will not be sustainable form of income for all but the very best of us in the next 5-10 years. That is why, any serious player who loves the game will need to study harder then they ever have before if they want a fighting chance at coming out on top. The primary reason for this is that there are more resources then ever before for one to improve there games. The unfortunate byproduct which occurs as a result is the quality the games increase, and win rates win rates have subsequently fallen. I think the abundance of poker training sites and forums is overall terrible for the games and this is a big reason for current predicament However, as a market exists for such content, they will always exist as long as the demand is there and someone will always be willing to exploit it. Also, i don't foresee myself in the poker world for to much longer at its current state. I give myself 1-2 year maximum before i need to rethink my life and move on to something else.

For me it is hard to see the whole game dying. Maybe holdem games are getting more and more difficult, but there are other forms of poker as well. Long time ago 5 card draw was the most famous game, but these days it is almost non existent. Maybe the same thing may happen to holdem as well.

Despite living in NV, I don't know that much about the US situation online as I'm an old-school live player but if we can get the regulations changed and allow more states and also playing against other countries, there's so much of a market here and that would be great for the game

You know the more I think about this the more I think it is a positive future.

You know maybe speaking on a level of business here but I do see the bad businesses really not exiting the industry and the good ones taking over a lot more sites and outlets. I think if you look at live events as well these are just getting bigger than ever. You know EPTs are growing, this years WSOP is going to smash even more records and even smaller tours like the Unibet Open are attracting so many players and also viewers.

So for me I think the next 5 years is actually going to be pretty amazing and I am certainly seeing the shift in more sites doing more for their players and yeh just way more people wanting to watch and play poker.
