@CrazyCookie To your last point, take-backs are obviously as immature as the name suggests so I totally understand your frustration. I also get the illusion of voting against 'the establishment' since by participating in the vote you're just picking a different jersey in the same sporting event.
Someone asked me what would be my vote and here's what I answered:
Honestly, I'm going back and forth on this issue and politics in general. So far I've been voting in every major election/referendum that I could, but I'm considering not doing that ever again. Here's the thing, at this point, I'm convinced politics can't solve the world's most important problems. The system is widely inefficient and deeply flawed. Unfortunately, it's also in the system's best interest to keep itself running so it's highly unlikely we're going to get a viable alternative in the next few decades. I'm not sure if I should participate in this flawed system to the best of my ability or quietly oppose it and recognize its shortcomings by not voting at all.
Then there's the issue of knowledge and competence. I have enough perspective to know that there's not a single person in the world who can honestly, objectively evaluate the ramifications of such a complex decision like leaving or staying in EU and because of that I'm hesitant to impose my personal beliefs on the entire population. I happen to be vegan and in the initial phase of unconditioned love with the idea of reducing the pain and suffering of sentient beings I'd probably say that everyone should be vegan, but now I realize that I have no way of knowing how the 100% vegan world would actually turn out. The system is too big and there're too many moving parts. It simply doesn't compute in my limited human brain. Maybe the perfect world is only 50% Vegan? Or 30%? I feel strong enough about my beliefs to stand by them and recommend them to the people in my small circle, but that's about how far I'm willing to go. Seeing as that's my current position on those 'larger than life' systems and ideas, I wouldn't vote at all, but if you pointed a gun to my head... EU is a great project that's actually providing some tangible benefits (freedom to move around etc.), but I'm almost sure that you can provide the core benefits without the tons and tons of bureaucracy that goes with it. I can't see how anyone would see this as an easy clear cut decision and for me, it's a 55% - 45% coin flip in favor of leaving. Since it's so close I just wouldn't vote at all, but I don't want to leave you with a non-answer.
