@AshVIP I wouldn't recommend an all in one PC. If you want your computer to be mobile, a laptop will be a strictly better option. If you want a bigger screen for media consumption and/or bigger workspace you can just go for a PC or buy an additional monitor and connect it to your laptop. If you need help with choosing a PC/laptop let me know.

@Jon-PokerVIP As for the resolution problem. As far as I know DVI and VGA ports don't support 2560x1080 format but you should have an HDMI port on the back of your PC right? If so you should be able to connect the monitor via HDMI cable and choose the 2560x1080 resolution. If for some reason you still can't pick the 2560x1080 resolution even after connecting via HDMI here's a quick guide on how to do add this resolution manually via your drivers: CLICK

Let me know if that solved the issue and if not report back so we can try something else.

I have a budget of around £300. Don't need anything too powerful, won't be gaming (except poker obviously), or using Netflix or anything. Main uses would be poker with a HUD open (Which seems to struggle on this comp), multiple Skype windows open and browsing with a lot of tabs open. Maybe £270 for a laptop and £30 for an addition monitor or something?

£300 is not a lot and you can't really buy something that will last you very long for that amount, but if you don't have very high expectations something like THIS should serve you well.

It's connected via HDMI but have no option. Gonna give the link a go and see if I can figure it out now

This is my desktop and it's pretty damned slow. Sometimes takes nearly 4 minutes or so to start up and then sometimes I can click something and go put the bloody kettle on.

Yes I need a new one but trying to find a workaround until I get some money and could use some clever people's advice.

PC specs:




There're 4 slots for RAM and they're full with 3 X 1K and 1 X 500MB and the PC is a refurbished one. I just bought one of the 1K ones.

Monitors:

HP w2007 Wide LCD (my older screen)

Samsung S27B370

No printer or fancy stuff attached, only wireless keyboard and mouse.

Usage:

Google search
watching YouTube and poker vids
playing poker
no games play

While I play poker or search I often have music playing as well, that's about it.

I also have Microsoft Office because Excel has all my ranges with macros:




Poker software:

PT4
HM2
NoteCaddy Edge 3.0

Pt4 runs fine and smooth

HM2 is a bitch and takes nearly 5 minutes to load up but then when I run the HUD NC3.0 freezes not only the HM2 but the poker client (microgaming) as well and I have to shut it down making HM2 unusable.

So, was thinking swap the HDD for SSD but noobness means I don't know what to get. I've found some from around £25 all the way to £588 and I can only afford the lower bracket so don't want to buy something that wont work on my piece of junk machine either.

Will buy a new one PC next year if I can so any suggestions there would be much appreciated to. I looked some of the hardware up on this one and some is like 7-8yrs old now and wasn't near not top spec even then.

@Pwll That's more than a decade all CPU so you can't really affect the performance of your PC that much, but we'll think of something. I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Ok, let's unpack this baby. Your PC specs are well below the recommended ones for both HM2 and PT4. If PT4 is running smooth I'd just count my blessings and stop using HM2 + NoteCaddy during my sessions (though you can still import hands and make NoteCaddy notes overnight etc.). Buying more RAM won't really help that much. Buying an SSD could potentially help though I just wouldn't invest in such an old platform. You're much better off saving that money and buying a new PC with a more powerful CPU sooner.

I was about to write a whole bunch of paragraphs about small things you can do to make your computer run a bit faster like disabling visual effects, removing unnecessary programs etc. but... it turn's out that I'm not smarter than the internet (surprise, surprise!). Here's a pretty comprehensive guide on how to make sure you're getting as good of a performance as you can hope for from your PC: CLICK!

Oh and once you're ready to purchase a new machine let me know and we'll find something that will suit your budget.

@MattVIP this sounds rather terminal, tech seems to have left me behind somewhat!

My budget won't be above £400 I should think and I don't want a lappy, can't stand having one of the things unless it's imperative, like when I was teaching.
It wont require heavy use except for that that I mentioned earlier.

@Milfgrinder - good spec choice except the older hard disk. You would notice a massive difference with an SSD and just plug in external of 1tb for all of your storage.

@Gus Fring Now is a pretty good time. Non-US countries started to implement the "Black Friday" as the marketing strategy though you're a touch late to the party. Other than that you have to approach this on a shop by shop basis but the prices shouldn't differ much. Also, what are you using right now? Maybe you don't need a new machine but a small upgrade.
