Been grinding away and heres the update

Posted 7 years ago

Hi All

Been a while but had my head down and studying like mad........

Have had a really good run lately and built my bankroll to just over £ 1000.00 and have moved up to 5c/10c tables.

Taking it really steady and reduced my table playing to just two so i can spend more time getting things right.

Comfortable at this level so far and to be honest I actually find it a little easier but that could be because my confidence is high and the inevitable downswing hasnt kicked in....lol

=============================================================

I do have a question though which is really p..ing me off.

Whats with late registration in tournaments!!!!!

don't get me wrong I am not a tournament player at all but I keep getting these tickets from partypoker and managed to get to the Punta Carls semi final event (£109.00 buy in)....7 players and we had been playing for just under 2 hours when all of a sudden up pops a new player................like I said I have no idea about tourneys so was a bit shocked to see this............

Why would they allow this some of the players who had started had less chips than this new player...how is that fair?

The really annoying thing is that they actually ended up with an advantage over those who had been playing and trying to win but were smaller stacked (just to clarify at that point in time I was chip leader and no they didnt take me out i made a couple of bad calls later on and was gone lol)

How is it justified as effectively they can just wait until a calculated stack ve blinds and then enter....I just think it is a real shame that they dont have the bottle to go for it right from the start.

If there are any tourney players out there ...whats your thoughts on it... I quite like the difference in play but don't see it in my armoury anytime soon......

back to the grind

cheers for now

Late registration in tournaments is just a choice really .Some tournaments have stupidly long ones. But if you do join late then you'll be playing shorter stacked from the moment you sit down. You'll have less post flop playability and will end up having to shove in your stack more frequently. If you sit in from the very beginning then you have a chance to play deep stacked (or as deep stacked as it's possible to) and build up a larger stack having more postflop playability without having to commit a large percentage of your stack preflop. Of course the possibility is that you might go bust early with a cooler/bad beat. But hey, the opposite is true and you can also build an advantage over short stack late reg guys too. It's possible to do well either way though. I will say that in small stakes tournaments, if you sit earlier then you probably get the chance to play vs a lot worse players that just throw their chips around for a bit of fun.

Btw, have you've considered moving to 25nl if your BR is over 1k? You'll have at least 40bi which sounds good to me if you're crushing.

Hi and thanks for the reply

Not ready for NL25 yet....My poker life only started a few months back and despite being able to crush the NL2 & NL4 I am concious that my skill level is still in its infancy and smalls stakes are a great learning ground to keep developing my play and to eradic the big leaks in my game.

I am aiming for 35,000 hands at 5/10 and will review how I am doing from there.

Tourneys

I fully understand the risk/reward in late registration, just think that its unfair

As a thinkiing player ( I hope I am anyway lol ), i would of thought there would be merit in working out what the optimal entry point would be based on blinds vs stack .........I am not sure what impact it could have in increasing your chances of reducing a few points regarding the high varience in MTT's but an optimal entry could I guess help...of course i could be a million miles away and as I only play the free entries that PPoker give me I doubt I will be spending too much thinking on it.....

Again thanks for the insight and taking the time to reply

Cheers

Hey dude welcome!

Yeh late reg is fine as you all start with the same chips just at different times. Wouldn't worry about that to much!

Party are pretty cool giving away these tickets! Best check my account to see if any are there for me.
