Goal: Infinity Billion Dollars

Posted 8 years ago

Hello!

I'm Darius and welcome to my thread. Okay, the goal might be a little optimistic, but what's the point of dreaming if you don't dream big? Laugh

A little about me.

I'm 27yo, I play and stream a lot of 100NL cash games and am working on solidly crushing on the stars 200NL games as well. I've played for years but always part time, either along with university or my job as a structural analyst. I also make some videos for this lovely site and they seem to get some good feedback so I'm glad you guys like them!

Graphs are fun so here's on of my last few 100NL hands.

Attached Image

So... there's a plan, right?

I guess so! I decided to make this thread mainly for a couple reasons.
1) To track my progress.
2) To keep myself accountable with any goals I may have.
3) To post some fun hands. Smile

I don't currently have a concrete goal I need to stick to but I'll post them when I do. For now, lets just start off with a hand.

I'm a calling stationLaugh

Detailed plan of the week

Ha! My schedule is always a mess. The only real consistent thing is the times I stream and the time I'm at work. I'm actually at work right now (Don't tell Bob). I assume you're more curious about the poker side but I don't really set a schedule for that. Since mindset is such an important part of playing I won't play if I don't feel like it and if I suddenly get the urge to then I will. I do try to set aside at least a few hours every week to study and discuss hands and strategy with other players I know.

WSOP

I really wanted to go this year, but as fate would have it something more important came up. I'm expecting my first child in a few months and there's so much to do! It makes more sense for me to put my time and bankroll dollars towards that instead. It's cool tho, I'll just bink the main event next year.

Updates

I didn't play too much poker over the weekend but had a couple decent sessions so things are going in the right direction. I'll post some more fun hands soon but, you know, the whole being at work thing. Smile

MDC: @Komododragonjesus Some call down with 33 what was the thought process behind it? GL with the bankroll challenge

I knew from a previous hand that his guy was either tilting, just plain nuts, or both. Against that I have no intention of folding even weak pairs and I might even call down ace high. Of course it'll be super high variance but judging by what he showed up with it'll be extremely profitable.

Not going to lie and say I have been watching your twitch. But I think I remember seeing the name in the list I believe. Will make it a point to pop in next time and check it out if I see it listed. Best of luck with it.

I already don't sleep, this can't be good!

Mindset

Ok first concrete goal of the thread. Take breaks! Easy, right? This is more of a mindset goal than anything else but I've recently been using a strategy where I grind hard for about 30 minutes, take a break, then repeat. Same goes for anytime I lose a significant hand. Take a breather, get back to the A+ mindset and go on. I used to just grind for hours on end but I'm finding this really helps with my concentration and lets me grind longer sessions than I otherwise would. I find it kind of funny that I'll play a 4 hour session and take 10 breaks throughout but if it's stupid and it works then it's not stupid.

Poker
No complaints about how things have been going at the tables. 200NL has been rocky for me in the past but all my recent sessions have either gone well or I've lost money but I left I played well and that's all you can ask for. I put in about 10 hours of off-table studying since last weekend which is more than my usual week. I'm gonna try to stick to that for the foreseeable future.

I saw the Q9 v AA hand, you never have a cake when you need it do you. That was a great session though wasn't it, like drunk nl10 they were. In love

I started taking breaks after 30 minutes because I found that to be my best time span, I can play longer but need to stick to the plan of 30 minutes instead of 4 hours or whatever. It's very hard to do though when they games are running hot. Mindset alert. Kiss

That graph is just insane - is that across all sites?

That's mostly on PS but some 888 as well. Stakes is a mix of 100nl and 200nl.

Wheee

Alright the last week as been a rocky one. I've been super busy with real life stuff and that's both added stress while I'm playing and taken away time from stuff like studying off the tables. I still got a few hours of study in but less than I'd like.

That graph also includes some messing around at 25nl & 50nl to blow off steam. Definitely not +EV money wise but +EV fun wise Laugh

Update!

This week as still been pretty swingy but I'm at least going in the right direction! I've been playing mostly 100nl with a bit of 200nl. I haven't had the chance to test at 200z lately but the 200 SNAP games have been alive and well. There's an interesting dynamic on 888 since they don't have a ton of players. It's usually either the 100nl game runs or the 200nl one does, it's rarely both. This has actually been great because it's a lot of the same players playing at both levels? Have an edge against these 100nl players and want to play high? BOOM you got it Smile

Attached Image

Study

Mentally I think I've been really solid. Forcing a lot of breaks is still doing its job. I'm still putting a good amount of study into my week and I'm happy about that. I've been chatting with some other players at my level and one of them did one of those Database Analysis leakfinder things. He said it was amazing and described some of the really specific filters they use to pinpoint leaks. One that came up I thought was interesting was river call efficiency. For anyone that doesn't know this it's basically how often are you making money when you call a river bet. An efficiency of 1 is breakeven and anything above that is profit. Of course, anything below 1 means you're losing money on average which is never good. I've always knew about this stat and checked it sometimes but what I never did was go into specifics.

What's my RCE in tiny pots?
15+ bb pots?
50+ bb pots?
200 bb pots?

All those are vastly different spots and you can easily have positive RCE overall but still be losing significantly in certain spots while making up for it in others. In these spots, which hands are making money and which aren't? I'm still looking into it Smile but I feel like I've discovered a new way to look at my stats that I'm really excited about! And of course stuff like this can be allied to all sorts of stats.

Fun hands

These spots are typically so disgusting. Nice to see a balance check paying off.

I've been away and super busy with stuff and then return for a browse on here and see the almighty Darius has started a journey thread! WOOP!

Just read through all the posts so far, it looks like it's going dandy!

Great to see you're doing a lot of study too! Everyone always seems to have their own study methods, what works best for you?

Also, congrats on the baby bromeo!
