I'll be the Hero!!! 2016 Season

Posted 8 years ago

Hi!
A continuation for this season of my last year thread.
I wanna be the Hero!

No I didn't went bust when I played last year. Unfortunately, I was only able to turn $500 into $870 with bonuses last year (52,412 hands). Grinding NL10 and losing all my stacks to NL25 and PLO25 regulars =-(
At least I've won more money playing poker than I ever did playing chess!! Try going to the chess regulars' tournaments and see how you'll fare, hehe.

Now that the holidays have long passed, I don't have any excuse to stop playing poker.
I've opened my account on ACR starting with $1,000 =-D

I used your awesome link for the rakeback, free Saturday tourneys this month, the juicy bonus, and to join the Online Poker League!! Hype!

I'm down to $808. Again losing vs. regs at nl25.

I've been reviewing articles and videos from this site, PokerStrategy and the Poker Bank.
I've increased my 3-bet range on the blinds and have started experimenting raising hands in position that I used to limp with. Speculative mid-suited connectors, mid-pairs, and even high-suited gappers (non broadway).
I like the action I get.
I've tagged a lot of recreational and regular players.

I've labeled them as:
Recreationals (I never liked calling players fish)
Nits
TAGs
LAGs
Whales ( I can't think of a better name for players with 30+ VPIP)
Maniacs (Some people might call them donks because their play doesn't make much sense)
TAGRecreationals (somehow resemble TAGs, but postflop they start chocking under pressure).

Despite having a losing streak. I've noticed a few regulars changing tables when we are the only ones left and we go heads-up. That gives me motivation since it's obvious the other regulars notice my play =-D

I can't wait for the Online Poker League to start. I'll try to join the first game this Sunday. I might not be able do to the schedule, but I'll definitely play as many games as I can =-D

I don't know how what exactly to write a poker blog. I don't want to just write my coolers and bad beats, so I'll try to keep you informed on my auto-didactic process.

I'm treating my $1k as my health points, once it's over, I will NOT play online poker anymore (only live poker since it's easier, hehe). With that being said, I'm having a really good time and I'm glad I get to try my luck at poker while I'm still young and have no obligations. No girlfriend or children to take care of and still have my solid career in IT consulting Cheeky

I've been playing and taking notes on specific players. I've been making better use of my HUD to determine what to do.
I've noticed that my flop C-Bet is lower than the regulars, but I sometimes cringe when I'm OOP (UTG or MP vs. CO and BTN) and must shot the flop CBET.

I'll keep firing flop C-bets on dry boards: rainbow flops, paired boards, one broadway card and 2 low cards, and uncordinated flops.
I've been squeezing more vs. UTG openers and MP caller when UTG has >12% PFR in these positions,
since this can be any pair, most broadways, and some suited connectors.

I've been reraising players OOP when they lead the flop (They donk the flop, right?) after I have reraised them preflop IP and they call, although I'm starting to think of floating them and bet the turn if they check. If the flop cBet didn't make sense, can OOP villain lead the turn after being floated? They could if they pick up equity on the turn, so i wonder how to approach this.

I keep going on a downswing. ACR is not as easy as Bovada...
I joined the Online Poker League and will be playing on Today's game which will start in an hour!!

Hey buddy! Sorry for the delay on me getting over here for a reply. Don't see the last thread as a fail see it as a stepping stone. Now we are really going to crush 2016!!!

Are you playing all ACR and BetOnline OPL's? How did the ACR one go last night? Due to timezone issues i cannot play ACR and due to regulations I cannot play BetOnline so will be good to hear about how many runners they get etc if poss? Also how you finish in them!

Good luck this season Smile

@Jon-PokerVIP Hey! The tournament went pretty smooth. I think we peaked at 44 registered players. I ended in 21st place. Yes, I'll play all OPL ACR tourneys =-)

My Cbet bluffs OOP got called. Right now I'm playing only at ACR to clean the bonus, although I'm losing too quickly at -10bb over 16.6k hands on this site. I'm not sure if I'll be able to clear the bonus this time like I did on the super soft Bovada Doh!

Another play I remember didn't make much sense on my part that got re-raised was.
x x Q Q uncordinated board.

Everyone folds to villian in SB, he raises 3.5x, I'm in the BB with A6o and min-raise him.
He calls.
Flop goes checked
Turn is checked, I bet 2/3, he shoves.

IMO, I could only have represented top pair or over-pair by cBetting the flop.
After a second queen came on the board, I could no longer represent trips or over-pair the way I played. I just folded.

I don't play tournaments, hehe.

I started rebuilding my bankroll at turbo HUSNGs. I won my first 6 and lost 1.

My HUSNG record on Bovada is
$5 buy-in
won: 22
Lost: 15

I'm not sure if I should specialize in HUSNG format or adapt to ACRs 6-max. I can't beat NL25 or even NL10 over here >_<
They take me to value town badly =-(

Hmmm its a tough one as we don't see the full story to comment but if you crush husngs and losing at cash then it might just be that obvious on what to do.

@Jon-PokerVIP Hey! Thanks for stopping by.
I joined ACR through your affiliate link and my profile on PokerVip's website says that my nickname is "uncofirmed"

About HUSNG. I already have $89.45 in profits after 63 games at different buy-in amounts, from $20 to $5.
I'm not sure if I'm better at HUSNG or I'm just good at winning coin-flips. Maybe I'll need at least 100 games to verify my approach?

Even though I'm building my bankroll on HUSNGs, should I go back to 6-Max every time I've rebuilt my bankroll or should I focus my time on studying HUSNG? How long is the long run before I know that I completely suck at 6-max? Maybe I should give full ring a try since the variance is not as wild as 6-Max.

This is strange but the skill level from $20 to $5 buy-in HUSNGs is not very different; whereas,
one can feel the change in skill level just by making a small jump in 6-max from NL10 to NL25 in cash games!!

I've been playing a lot of HUSNG lately. I haven't done anything wild since I keep finding new players. If I happen to stumble upon regs at the HUSNG tables, then I can really start planning, but I think the regs are all busy at the cash tables.

Until now, It's been going very ABC poker, taking care of my position, forcing players to play with lower effective stack sizes OOP, analyzing whether a play makes sense OOP vs. IP (For example, why would a player donk flop OOP when he has clearly seen I'm open-raising +75% pre-flop? Wouldn't it make sense to let the aggressive player to continue betting instead of donking?)
