Live player attempting the online grind

Posted 8 years agoEdited 8 years ago

hi firstly I want to introduce myself as a old member first time posting

my name is Paul I'm 29 and located in the UK, been playing poker recreationally for about 2 years started at a pub league after being pretty dominant there and reaching national finals on various occasions(finished 5th in the nationals from 300 runners) I decided to move onto the casinos, re occurring tournaments mainly apart from a 2 day evenT one casino ran once which I finished 2nd to over 400 runners which was a good result seeing as it was probably my fourth time playing in a casino and in my first year of poker.

Over the 2 years of playing live I've had around 5-6k in earnings some are on my Hendon mob some aren't but I'm pretty pleased with my results and defiantly in decent profit.

As far as playing online I have dabbled in the past never anything serious mainly out of boredom and having a spare couple of hours here and there(HENCE MY SHARKSCOPE LOOKING AWFUL). Now I have decided to knuckle down and study the online game and try to start grinding 2-3 hours a day to start and then increase as I go. First and foremost I am not starting this for the money I'm a sucker for a challenge and wanting to master something, if I can build a good bankroll then happy days but that is not the purpose of me playing online.

Also as far as HUD and stats I am a alien to it all and have been working on it the last couple of days and watching a couple of videos on here(shout out to w34zle he's a genius and his videos are helping me immensely)but this whole online game is new to me and will be a big learning curve so I don't expect to be a winning player from day 1

So I've been playing nl2 for a few days now its all a bit mental from going from being a live player to these micros but I'm finding it okay 2nl seems a massive long grind but I think I'm starting to get a grip on it I also finished third in a tournament on tonybet tonight I feel like there tournaments are a good bankroll booster guarantees aren't great but neither is the amount of runners so it aint bad

here is a graph of my few days on micro gaming Grosvenor and bet victor combined. Its not a massive hand sample I know and I'm hoping to get to 10k by the end of the week

I defiantly need to improve on my showdown results my VPIP is a little aggressive so I will be working on my opening ranges too

The title of this meant to say live and not love? If so lmk and I can edit it Wink

Looking forward to following your progress here! It is quite rare to see someone transitioning and strting from the bottom whilst taking it seriously!

yes mate it is supposed to say live my bad......and tbh nl2 is very frustrating and I was half tempted to start at nl5 but I have a lot to learn about online play and I need to learn it from the bottom up but hopefully I wont be down there too long

Awesome to see more live players entering the fray!

I enjoy live poker to an extent but I just don't have the time or patience for it for the most part. Playing 20 hands an hour and having to factor in travel costs/time and so on just makes it more hassle than I can take normally!

so after having some trouble with holdem manager not tracking correct results on bet victors blaze tables I am now switching this to reg tables only which means unfortunately I lost a few thousand hands from the last couple days and I will just post my daily reg table sessions ..and results.

I will post todays graph and results later on tonight

I will post todays results as I wont be playing anymore this evening

the day was up and down and also it wasn't great for volume I only managed just under 700 hands but I am only playing 2 tables ATM until I become a little better at thinking fast enough to increase table numbers, I took a bit of a hit in the final stages of the session as you will see and I finished the day with a profit of just over 1 buy-inn but I have no complaints it isn't a loss and that's important for me....

(just to mention I did profit about 1.5 buyins playing Blaze tables but I cant include results from this in my stats as HM2 wont detect quick folding from the blinds in blaze so stats wouldn't be accurate)

also to add I am not using a HUD at the moment as I am new to nl2 I want to get a feel for what sort of players I'm up against before deciding what stats will best suit me to help me beat them...im also studying HUD stats and how to use them so until I am fully familiar I think using a HUD and not understanding it properly may confuse my game a little. Right now I'm playing ABC and stealing where I can...NL2 reminds me of when I first started studying live poker I went to a pub league game thinking yes I have an edge ive studied for weeks and feel confident.. , by the end of the night I realised what I learnt in the books can not be used in these games and that most of the players wasn't sure what a 3bet was and they wasn't going to fold to my bluff all in ...anyway thanks for reading and I will post again tomorrow evening

I should of mentioned from the start that I am starting with a bankroll of 20.00 euros so I will update the balance as I post results I hope to take a stab at 4nl(euros) once I reach 80.00 euros

Starting BR 20.00 euros
Day 1 results - +2.37 euros profit
plus 1.44 euros profit from a couple hands on blaze tables(I wont be involving these in this challenge any further I will play reg tables only)
Total BR - 23.81 euros

I will also post some interesting hands and some of my stats later on this evening and see if any of you guys could lend any advice

Posted 8 years ago
so here is todays update as I wont be playing anymore hands today

STARTING BR - 23.81 EUROS
HANDS PLAYED - 1006
PROFIT - 11.67 EUROS
NEW BR - 35.48 EUROS

So today was a decent day I'm happy with how I played and adapted to some tables I do need to adjust slightly in some spots I feel I'm not 3betting enough and losing a bit much more than id like to at showdown but these are things I can work on

I will post again tomorrow and thanks for dropping in

so todays update.....still grinding at NL2.....

its been a bit of a crap day to be honest hence the early night.. I finished the day 0.99 euros in profit but I couldn't seem to get anything going but again I'm thankful that it isn't a loss...I did have a bit of a bankroll boost Thursday night coming third in a 5 euro MTT on tony bet for a profit of 30 euros which will go onto this BR it isn't in my results graphs as I don't think holdem manager tracks on tony bet

so as it stands

todays start BR - 35.48 euros
hands played - 902
cash profit - 0.99 euros
MTT profit - 30.00 euros
new BR - 66.47 euros

end of week results(3 days play)

CASH - Hands - 2,590 - profit 15.03 euros
MTT - profit 30 euros
End of week BR - 66.47 euros

end of week Cash results graph

Been reading but not posted yet but great start!! Tripled your bankroll pretty quick is always a good thing!

I had a dibble dabble on BetVictor for the blaze cannon thing, but after losing every attempt on the cannon gave it up lol!

Awesome graph so far as well, keep it up!

Thanks for the messege mate...i like it at bet victor or at least so far at NL2 as some sessions I can just switch the HUD off and isolate 1 or 2 players that I've noticed are playing bad I think with such small samples and me being new to HUD stats it can confuse things a little when realy all I need to do is pay attention to the fish that are jumping out the water

So just a quick update as I haven't played much the last days due to having a lot on I did manage to squeeze a few hands in so the results are as follows

from 20th- 22nd June NL2 six max 20-1000 euro challenge

BR - 66.47 euros
hands played - 1395
profit - +4.62 euros
NEW BR - 71.09 euros

if I can hit 80 euros in the next few days I might take a stab at NL4 and add 1 table in to replace 1 of the 4 NL2 tables
