10NL A5

This is an interesting hand I was reviewing earlier! I think I played the turn and river poorly… Would like to hear your thoughts.

Villain is completely unknown, literally the first hand I’ve played with him.

Preflop: We’re IP, vs. a SB min open… I opt to 3bet to take initiative with a playable hand vs. a weak open sizing, possibly a fishier player (most regs would 3x). I could also call but I find a lot of the players are weak in 3bet pots on Snap.

Flop: Nice flop, gutshot to broadway and the nut flush draw! I opt to bet as I can get him to fold some underpairs and put pressure on weak Q/Tx. Loads of cards to barrel the turn on. If he folds this flop, happy days, if not, I’m still feeling good.

Turn: We pair our 5. If he had us beat on the flop, he still does. We have some SDV vs his draws but there’s a lot of pair + draw combos out there. In game, I opt to fire a big 2nd barrel, I think this was a mistake, thoughts? In my mind, Tx & Qx would be under horrible pressure when facing this bet… But in hindsight, most Tx / Qx has a pair + draw. A lot of what called the flop is not folding the turn. Also, seeing as I bet, I’m left with a near pot size bet on the river… If we brick, we have to make a big decision. Should we check here and hope to hit on the river?

River: Ultimate blank card! I think this is a bluff shove but not entirely sure! If I check back and showdown my 5’s, I expect to lose a huge percentage of the time.
- Ok, so what hands will call - TT, AJ, QT, KT, KQ (some of which might have fast played the flop and GII straight away, I suppose it’s player dependent)
- Hands that will most likely fold - All flush draws, QJ, TJ, 9T, AK, KJ, JJ, AQ. All of these are bluff catchers after facing a 3bet preflop and then bet, bet shove.

So shove river? Or check back?

I would check the turn for the pure fact that it changed nothing and I expect them to call the turn with everything that called the flop.

After I saw your turn bet I was thinking you should shove the river now even though draws missed. If they flopped a straight or set they are raising on that flop all day because it's drawy AF.

By calling two streets I put their hand at two pair at best, which I think we can fold by the river. If we had a read on the player being an ABC reg, I'd shove river, but he's unknown so I would wuss out and check the turn and river.

Checking turn is horrible @Harvie!!! We want to bet so that when we make the nuts we can get stacks in, we also get tx to fold qx to fold some of the time and worse draws to call.

Btw us having SDV OTT doesn't mean anything :') we need to bet for protection if we are ahead and we can also get better to fold.

River is meh at 10nl: will we really get enough folds? Maybe, I shove because I know that I have sets AJ and KQ in my range so it's going to be tough to have enough bluffs anyway. 27 value combos so we need to have 9 bluff combos for villain to make a +-EV call.

We check hands like QJs OTF and the only other Jx combos I think will be KJ and AJ which we either bet for value or check river with. So we may as well use all our AdXd as bluffs to be balanced, fwiw I don't think A5s is in my 3b range here so for me it's even harder to get enough bluffs OTR.

we dont need 3 streets to get him of the weak holdings that beats us. I would x otf, bet turn/bet river. As played i think beting the turn is mandatory?

@Nikola07 Checking the flop would be a disaster! We get all PP to fold and we want to build the pot for when we make the nuts.

Pre: I like the three bet with this type of hand but I feel you went too large when we have position on villain.

Flop: Betting here is mandatory IMO when we have so much equity and will fold out all underpairs to the board pretty much 100% of the time.

Turn: Tricky turn spot here. Normally I'm a fan of double barreling hands with this much equity but on this particular board texture I would be expecting to get called almost always when we bet here since the turn has changed nothing. I would expect villains range to be weighted towards pairs with a J kicker pretty often here, and all of these types of hands will be continuing. If we bet turn I feel we should be betting river also to fold out hands like QJ/TJ. I think checking back turn is for sure a viable option though.

Pre I think 3 betting or calling are both fine.

Flop looks like a c bet even though we expect him to call here a lot.

Turn is tough. With only one card to come our equity against his showdown value which isn't folding is greatly reduced so I would check. His range for calling the flop mostly won't be folding the turn.

As played against an unknown I wouldn't consider barreling the river.
