6Max Opening Ranges Construction

Posted 9 years ago

Hey guys, I have been playing around with Equilab and after some research, i decided to finally define my ranges to have clear structured idea of what i open from each position and why. How does this look to you? I am playing mainly 4NL with enough bankroll to try shots for 10NL. Hopefully someone playing at my limits can share with me their opening range percentages by position. It will be helpful. Thank you. Smile

UTG: {77+, ATs+, KTs+, QTs+, JTs, T9s, 98s, 87s, AJo+, KQo} 11.16%
MP: {55+, A7s+, KTs+, QTs+, J9s+, T9s, 98s, 87s, AJo+, KQo} 13.27%
CO: {22+, A2s+, K6s+, Q9s+, J8s+, T8s+, 97s+, 86s+, 76s, 65s, A9o+, KTo+, Q9o+, J9o+, T9o} 28.51%
BU: {22+, A2s+, K2s+, Q8s+, J8s+, T8s+, 97s+, 86s+, 75s+, 64s+, 54s, A2o+, K9o+, Q9o+, J9o+, T8o+, 98o} 39.97%

Is this way too loose? I guess it will run in the range 22/19 or sth like that, maybe slightly more.

There is a free app made by the guys that do pokersnowie that gives you pre flop opening ranges, calling ranges, squeezing ranges etc.

At 4nl you'll probably find that opening nearly all PPs is profitable with the initiative but a lot is dependant on your post flop play.

With your button ranges - although you have a decent starting range there you can steal way wider if the sb and bb have high fold to steal %.

Hey there, I think you should open a bit looser than that, especially from the button. What is your SB opening range?

UTG: 55+, ATs+, A5s-A4s, KTs+, QTs+, J9s+, T9s, 98s, AJo+, KQo 12.67%
MP: 22+, A8s+, A5s-A2s, KTs+, QTs+, J9s+, T9s, 98s, 87s, 76s, ATo+, KQo 16.74%
CO: 22+, A2s+, K8s+, Q8s+, J8s+, T8s+, 97s+, 86s+, 75s+, 64s+, 54s, A9o+, KTo+, QTo+, JTo 26.4%
BTN: 22+, A2s+, K2s+, Q2s+, J6s+, T6s+, 96s+, 85s+, 75s+, 64s+, 54s, 43s, A2o+, K5o+, Q7o+, J7o+, T7o+, 97o+, 87o, 76o 54.75%
SB: 22+, A2s+, K2s+, Q5s+, J7s+, T7s+, 97s+, 86s+, 75s+, 65s, 54s, A2o+, K7o+, Q8o+, J8o+, T9o, 98o, 87o 44.8%

There are my standard opening ranges but it's important to adjust to the tables

Oh and my stats are 23/19 so I guess yours would be a bit tighter.

Is J9s an open from MP? That seems rather loose.

Stefataa, I run pretty loose like 27/22 and that's because I open almost ATC on the button. MY UTG/MP range is kind of tight, like 12% and 14%, but my CO and button are 35% and 60%+.

For 4nl though, your range is pretty much fine,I may take out J9s+ and A2-A8s from MP though, not sure if they would be ev+ as it's viable for regs to call with better aces at 4nl given their low 3bet%.

Everyone has their own style, so it's hard for any of us to say what you should open. That having been said, in the micros, people call bets all the time, so utg you can expect to play oop a lot. As such, I'd prob drop many of the SC, and instead open the btn pretty wide. Like any K, any 2 suited. If I had to rank the 3 things to look for in a poker hand, position wouldd be forst, picking on the right V's 2nd, and cards last. That doesn't mean you shouldn't have good ranges, but so much depends on the V's.

Thanks for the responses. I will drop the SC in UTG and leave only the suited broaways. In MP, I will drop A7s-A9s and replace it with 22-44 and also drop J9s. As for CO and BU, I will open more or tighten a bit depending on who is in the blinds.

BTW J9s is a slam-dunk open in MP imo =D So is T8s.

PP's should be profitable in all positions at low limits but can be find to play 66+ or something similar in tougher games.

I open A2-A5s UTG and all Axs from MP. These hands are optional though.

BTW, you're better off opening a shade tighter than "recommended", until you are comfortable with whatever range you're using, then opening up. So it may be that certain hands will be a good open for you in 30K more hands, just not yet.
