5NL - JJ

Posted 6 years ago

Anon. I guess we just call this off here and hope we're good? These types of fish will 3B with a pretty strong range (sometimes with random hands), but then do dumb stuff on the flop. I think we're just too strong to fold this?

When you think about villains range you see that you will lose most of these hands.

If he is fishy he will do this with JJ+... you are crushed
If he is more agressive and does this with 88+ you are crushed
If he is just stupid he mixes AK into above range... you are still crushed.
If you have seen him doing this with garbage bevore... happy calling because he is spewy

From my experience I start calling this hands with QQ. This changes of course if i have some reads on villain. Standard approach is that he 3bets preflop and shoves flop with TT+ and some draws. I should be ahead of this range. JJ is slightly too week for me.

how did it tourn out? was he spewy?

I don't mind the call preflop but I'm set mining.
I'm also folding to an over 1.5X pot bet on the flop. Villain has shown massive strength here from an out of position SB v a UTG open and a caller and then slams out an overbet on the flop into 2 opponents.

I've called to setmine, hit a slight overpair and then couldn't make myself lay it down. But ... but ... but ... they could be ... and they mostly weren't of course! Smile Not saying that happened here, just that I've done it before, a lot.

It's possible they could be spewy but since we don't seem to have that information I'd make the disciplined laydown this time.

I noticed you also played with less than 100bb, was there some reason for that?

Yeah I just lost a previous hand and I was dealt a hand before adding chips.

He showed AJ.

Agree we have about 20% equity here and are basically set mining

If he is more agressive and does this with 88+ you are crushed

We are not crushed against this range. We are 50/50

If he is just stupid he mixes AK into above range... you are still crushed.

Depends on which range above. vs JJ+ AK then yes we are at about 35% eq and calling the squeeze and even calling the flop becomes a lot more attractive. Seeing as on the flop he has 16 combos of AK that we are ahead of and 18 combos of QQ+ that we are behind and I think I would discount some of the AA and KK cuz I just can't see most fish overbet jamming their precious AA/KK and risking you folding and not getting paid

Vs the 88+ AK range we are ahead

If you have seen him doing this with garbage bevore... happy calling because he is spewy

For sure if you have read that he is spewy then best line is to call the squeeze and snap call the jam

I personally think that I would highly consider back raising this pre. We call JJ because of the UTG open, but once this fish squeezes and UTG folds and we are now heads up versus ~80bb fish. I would tend to think that the ranges are closer to the 88+ with AK and some AQ and some AJ and maybe even some other stuff thrown in. I put some kind of range like that in PR and we are slightly ahead. It sucks if we get 5bet jammed on, but still think I would back raise 4b for value versus the fish, especially if you have any kind of reads or history about what kind of fish he is. IF he is like the JJ+ fish then I wouldn't, but I don't think he is.

@fawltyfelix of course we are crushed when he does this with 88+... we only have 27,7% EQ. if we mix AKs into this range we have 37%, if he does this with all his AK we have 44%

yes maybe crushed is the wrong term for the last situation but getting it in with 85BB in order to be no even flipping at best is not what i am looking for in pots.

so over all without further reads this should be a fold.

Pre: I'm threebetting JJ vs the initial open here. When we do flat I'm sticking in a back raise, UTG will only really have QQ that beats us and will be weighted towards AK/AQ type hands, and SB will have enough worse in his SQZ range to make this an OK spot to come back over the top.

Flop: Facing this jam I'm calling off, he is repping exactly AA or KK and a lot of people aren't going to just overbet jam with these hands.

@FG_SpaceLord On flop yes, my mistake i was looking at pre still. I am still calling it off cuz like @fergrberger and I already said i doubt they are just overbet jamming AA KK 88 99. I think it is weighted more to the stuff that either needs protection like TT, JJ QQ or un paired overcards like AK AQ AJ that is trying to fold out stuff like TT JJ and QQ

So I did a range consisting of something like I described. I did 1 combo each of 88 and 99, cuz not saying they will never overbet jam them but just not that likely. Threw in a couple combos each of AA and KK for the same reason. Did all combos of QQ-TT. Then did like 2 combos of AJ, then like 6 combos of AK and AQ and against that range we are ahead. Only 55/45 so essentially a flip, but still ahead and I think against some guys you will be ahead more than that, so I am never folding there. However, based on the assumptions you are making you make a valid point for folding and it could be correct. I am just not Smile
