NL25 Floating AK in 3-bet pot

Posted 8 years ago

This is another non standard spot I think. Floating the flop felt really akward, but for some reason I had a feeling that it makes sense. Our 3-betting villain is at least semi-good. I mean, he is not open limping and he is not playing too many pots. I have not seen him making stupid plays. Let´s see the hand:

Effective stacks 100bb

Hero raises from the MP to 0,75 with AK
Villain 1 from the CO calls 0,75
Villain 2 from the BTN calls 0,75
Villain 3 raises from the BB to 3,90
Hero calls 3,15
Villain 2 calls 3,15

So, a lot of action pf. I choose to flat, because if I raise there and the villain reraises I have to put my whole stack in, and it is not something I love to do with AKo. It is also way too good to be folded right away, so I just call. I do not love this either, but I want to play it safe. This way we can have his squeezing hands like AQ or AJ in the pot.
I am not sure if this is a good play tho. It is pretty rare to be in situation like this.

FLOP 636 Pot 12,45

Villain 3 bets 6,30
Hero calls 6,30
Villain 2 folds

Big pot. Unfortunately we do not hit too much, but it is very likely that neither do my opponents. Villain 3 bets, and I am not worried about the other villain, because he has been playing all kind of random cards by calling all the time. I have backdoor flush draw + 2 overs, and I think that my opponent´s range is wide enough so I can make this call. I am also pretty convinced that he won´t 2-barrel without nothing so I can safely fold the turn if he bets, and take the pot down if he checks.

TURN K Pot 25,05

Villain 3 checks

Very good news. We make the top pair, top kicker with the nut flush draw, and our opponent is checking to us. Do we just put the rest of our stack in the middle, or will we bet something less? Or is checking an option there? This is way ahead / way behind situation, so it would make sense?

Hi TrueFriend,

Pre: Part of me doesn't like the flat pre with two others left behind to complete. Like you said tho, we're not too happy stacking off here.

Flop: I personally would fold here when he cbets in 3bet pot OOP vs two people (who look like they hand pocket pairs most of the time here). I think he's going to jam the turn a lot when he has only 15 into a 25$ pot.

Turn: I would check back because you're not afraid of anything, you're in position, and now he probably has a showdown type hand or AK/ weak king. He can bet/call the river or x/call it.

Facing over 15bb squeeze I'd prefer to play 4bet/fold since it's becoming very expensive to play the "see a flop" game. As played I'd probably just fold the flop. It's a half pot bet but there is much less money behind than there would be in a normal 3bet pot, you're not closing the action and ranges should be stronger than normal given the amount of money that went in pre.

As played I'd check back the turn as well. Give him one more opportunity to bluff is he missed and I think it's easier to get value from pairs lowers than the K if you check back. That way you line is more consistent of something middling rather than just flushes and bluffs (and you really shouldn't have many Kx here).

Shoving pre here is fine, lots of dead money in the pot we can take down and we block AA/KK.

AK does not play well 3-way and a large part of it's awesome-ness is to shove in these types of spots and take down the money.

Flop call is a spew with a person left to act and the size they make it. We're folding if the player behind comes over the top and to any turn bet if we don't hit an A/K.

Turn I would bet very small like $3-5 to get a call from JJ-QQ and to give them the chance to spazz bluff. Don't like shoving as we fold too much of their range.

I agree. I'd prefer to just get it in pre (the spot is certainly good enough for it).

As played calling the flop is definitely too loose especially with a player behind you. As for the turn, I like the idea of checking back given the board texture. You're not really scared of anything and villain can't have many combos in his range that pay off three streets, especially given his line.

yep id shove pre , i think by calling you just allow a multi way pot and we don't want that.
