NL5 - Squeeze BB

Posted 8 years ago

I decided to squeeze preflop because the odds are that the BU and SB will fold a lot, and when called I can win in post flop sometimes..

So, the SB called my squeeze..

In the flop I decided to bet, because the SB range should not the that strong and I fell I can get a lot of folds( all hands that have no draws or pairs) and when called I should have around 16-28% to win the hand.

Is that makes sense?

Preflop: I like the squeeze. As you said you should be getting enough folds here to make this directly profitable in itself, and you block a lot of stong aces/strong pocket pairs which is good.

Flop: I don't like the bet here. Your squeeze has called and by c-betting on this kind of board texture I feel we are turning our profitable play into an unprofitable move due to post flop play. Villain is short stacked so our fold equity is significantly diminished as he will be much more willing to get the money all in here with any piece of that flop. We have position so I feel we should use it, check back and try to realise your equity. By betting so large we committed ourselves to calling off the for the remainder of villains stack as well with a gutshot which is never good.

I'm not keen on the squeeze here. Firstly the BTN made it 4x pre which isn't standard. And he's also short stacked which makes it more likely he's bad with your fold equity pre reduced.

The hand choice isn't great as well. KJo won't play well OOP in a reraised pot, even with initiative.

Not a fan of the 3bet either with two donks in the hand (neither are full stacked), would be calling instead as I don't think we're getting all that many folds.

Flop I see no reason to bet, our equity is pretty poor and the fact the SB is short makes me think they are not folding any piece of this flop.

I'm too much of a nit I know but versus a 4X Or and a caller I'm not happy flatting this hand and 3betting it looks a bit thin for similar reasoning so I would fold. I think a 4x short stack isn't folding. I also agree that cbetting that board isn't great as it hits everybody's calling range in the face except something like a small PP. I would be check/folding to a bet.

Vs larger than normal opens and shorter stacks I shy away from super light squeezes. I think this one is likely fine though with 2 strong broadways. @Pwll Even to the larger sizing, against a weaker player you want to be at least calling this hand. I think folding it the worst of the 3 preflop options.

Flop I'm not sure why we're advocating for a check. There's just over a pot sized bet left and you have 1 over + gutshot. Potentially 2 overs + gutshot to some hands that call you. Villain likely has a weak range due to his passive preflop play and it's unlikely he flopped a strong hand since 2-pair should be non-existent on this board and you have good blockers to TP.

If we check back and villain bets anything short of an underbet we have to fold our equity which really sucks.

I would shove flop. There's no point in betting 1.26 and letting him continue for a cheap price when there's only 88c left after that so maximize your fold equity with a jam.

Thanks a lot @Komododragonjesus that's thinking above my pay grade again, very interesting take on it and much appreciated.

yeah, don't squeeze preflop against a 4x open, especially when one guy is shorter stacked.

On the flop it's unlikely that bet/calling can have a higher expectation than just shoving ourselves given the SPR that has been set up.
