Guarantee

Online and off-line poker rooms will often set a guaranteed prize pool for a tournament. They do this to get players to enter that specific tournament. For instance, a casino may host a $10 tournament with a $5000 guarantee. This means it cost $10 to enter and the casino guarantees a payout of at least $5000 to the winning field. A common misconception is that the whole $5000 will go to the winner. It does not work that way.
