Steal

This is the name given to an open raise which has the objective of winning the pot preflop. As there is no way to know that if you are not the player doing it, people feel it that way wen the raise is done from late positions like the button or the cutoff. For example, it is not likely that a player will open the hand with J8s from UTG, while the same player in the button with that hand is going to raise more often than not if the action was folded to him.
