With no major live poker festivals happening this summer we all have to look online to get our fix. Luckily this summer there’s a lot to look forward to, and plenty going on for everybody.

After the lockdown started people were coming back to online poker to see what was happening. Within a few weeks we saw the WSOP Circuit Online showing just what was possible.

As Gus Hansen frequently tells his Instagram followers, it’s gonna be a great summer.

WSOP Switches to Online

It’s always a shame to see the American player pool get shunned when something big is happening online. Luckily this summer we will at least see them sharing the World Series of Poker with the rest of us.

GGPoker has stepped up to the plate and inked a deal with the WSOP organisers to run the festival online this year. After the WSOP Circuit Online was a roaring success it was only natural to try and fill the gap we expected to see this summer.

A total of 85 WSOP gold bracelets are up for grabs between WSOP.com and GGPoker, with 54 of them on the latter starting on July 19th.

Ty Stewart, Executive Director of the World Series of Poker, said:

It wouldn’t be Summer without WSOP. While we are thrilled to be reopening our venues and optimistic about future offline events, we couldn’t be more excited about deepening our relationship with GGPoker and watching some history unfold online this summer.”

World Poker Tour Heading to partypoker

Running alongside the WSOP 2020 is the WPT World Online Poker Championships on partypoker.

Kicking off on July 1st, the series will run for more than five weeks including the $10,300 buy-in World Championship Main Event with a $10,000,000 guarantee.

Tom Waters, partypoker Managing Director, said:

I’m delighted that we have been able to partner with WPT to revive the WPT World Championships and bring the series online for the first time.”

It will be interesting to see partypoker and GGPoker both running major series at the same time. Usually players would be forced to make a choice due to scheduling clashes but in the online world this is never a problem.

Both festivals will surely end up paying out at least $250 million in prize money over the summer.

WCOOP to End the Summer

As if the WPT Online World Championships and World Series of Poker appearing online at the same time wasn't enough, when they’re both over and done it’s time for PokerStars to have a turn.

No date has yet been announced but the World Championship of Online Poker - WCOOP - is set to take centre stage.

With around a $75 million guarantee for the series and a long list of champions that are household names in the poker community, this is one series that you shouldn’t miss.

Buy-ins are likely to range from as little as $2 all the way up to more than $25,000. There’s something for everybody in there.

So, just as we thought poker was going to be reduced to rubble by the COVID-19 pandemic, the online poker world has stepped up to promise us one of the best summers we’ve had for many a year.
