Live player taking the leap

Posted 8 years ago

hi firstly I want to introduce myself as a old member first time posting

my name is Paul I'm 29 and located in the UK, been playing poker recreationally for about 2 years started at a pub league after being pretty dominant there and reaching national finals on various occasions(finished 5th in the nationals from 300 runners) I decided to move onto the casinos, re occurring tournaments mainly apart from a 2 day even one casino ran once which I finished 2nd to over 400 runners which was a good result seeing as it was probably my fourth time playing in a casino and in my first year of poker.

Over the 2 years of playing live I've had around 5-6k in earnings some are on my Hendon mob some aren't but I'm pretty pleased with my results and defiantly in decent profit.

As far as playing online I have dabbled in the past never anything serious mainly out of boredom and having a spare couple of hours here and there. Now I have decided to knuckle down and study the online game and try to start grinding 4-5 hours a day. First and foremost I am not starting this for the money I'm a sucker for a challenge and wanting to master something, if I can build a good bankroll then happy days but that is not the purpose of me playing online.

so to the point I'm looking for some pointers in the direction of where to start studying the online game I have a fairly good knowledge of poker but being a live player there's a lot of things I don't know about online poker I have browsed a few videos and sites and there's so much shit out there that you don't know who is a real player sharing his/her knowledge or weather there a coach bum looking for a YouTube partnership

also I don't have a HUD yet so some advice on that would be great also, if I've missed any details

Thanks for reading and I look forward to being an active member(I will start a thread of my online journey as soon as I get started)

Yo Paul welcome! Sounds like you are doing pretty well in the live circuit so if you take some time and adjust well then there is no way you can't repeat that success in the online world.

Which parts of the online game do you struggle with the most? If you give me a list I can link you to all the correct training material Smile

hows it going jon

yes the live circuit has treated me well but I'm still a massive novice compared to even some of the regs playing GUKPT'S and sky ukpc tournaments once I am able to build a BR online then these tournaments will be my next target.

as far as online...
my main areas would be firstly the HUD Data and how to use it to my advantage and also ways I can identify and plug leaks

Hey Paul, whereabouts in the UK are you from?

I'm guessing it's Redtooth pub poker? I started playing Redtooth about 18 months ago, have been to every regionals, every nationals, won every trophy lol final tabled 3 out of the 4 regionals last season. Very soft players, though some think they are superstars the way they act, makes me laugh. On the way this season to win the league in 2 different pubs which would be a nice achievement

I'm originally / primarily an online tournament player and looking to play more online myself so if you fancy a chat/discussion let me know

The biggest change from live to online cash games you'll notice is how much more aggressive the game is. 6max is a very aggro game. On some sites you can find a full ring table or two, but I might be the only player here that likes that format. It will be closer to what you may be used to.

W online tournaments, again depending on your site, you're going to be up against some opponents who have serious knowledge of maths, and you'll be at a disadvantage until you get your push/fold charts in your head. You'll also prob be surprised to see people shoving stacks 15-20BB preflop, live donkaments you almost never see this.
