Expanding 3bet Value range

Posted 8 years ago

Hi,

So if Villan calls 3bets too wide how wide should we be increasing our 3bet value range?

For example a reg at my called my BTN 3b with QTs from MP. So I should expand my 3b range to include KQ and AJ?

If you have a solid read that villain will call with those hands then definitely 3 bet. It has to be for value right?

When I started looking into this part of my game a few years back my rule of thumb was if I only have a 'generic' read that villain calls too much then I would start adding the hands that I would value squeeze, i.e JJ,TT AQ AJs . I wouldn't start off with KQ and AJo in my range until I was more sure on my read.

I'm sure the theory on this has changed at least a little since I was playing 50-100NL a few years ago. I'd love to hear a mid stakes player's opinion on how far you can go for pseudo value before it causes you problems elsewhere

I think players have loosened up a bit more since then and AQ and JJ are default 3bets in position BTn vs CO.

I've seen some players 3b KQ and AJ vs. these type of players or where the blinds are squeezing a lot. So I think it's ok but I'm not too sure, would also love a mid-stakes player to comment!
