I'm actually half way through an article on this for PokerVIP.
I went for new glasses and contacts the other week before I came back to Thailand and was told if I didn't change my working habits then I'd have glasses like milk bottles in ten years, and would probably be unable to wear contacts any more.
When we went through my prescription history the pattern was completely normal until 2012 when I started playing Zoom poker, then it started to accelerate rapidly from about -4.50 up to -8.25 today. It's made worse by me being 38 and at an age where I should be getting to the stage where it never gets worse, and it's the opposite.
1500-2000 hands per hour sounded so cool though!
