Can anyone help me?

Posted 8 years ago

I am a multitabling MTT-player and the other day something weird happened.
Can anyone tell me how come I lost this hand:

Dealt to ME [ Jd, Js ]

** Dealing flop ** [ Th, Qh, Qs ]
** Dealing turn ** [ Ad ]
** Dealing river ** [ Ah ]
OPPONENT shows [ Ks, 3c ] and he won.

Thanks for your help!
I see! So although opponent has just a K, my pair of Jakes are not strong enough...

What about this:

Dealt to ME [ Ac, 9s ]

** Dealing flop ** [ 6c, Kc, 9d ]
** Dealing turn ** [ Ah ]
** Dealing river ** [ Kd ]
OPPONENT shows [ Td, As ] and won.

My opponent had only 1 pair of Aces and I had 1 pair of Aces and 1 pair of 9, so why I have lost?
I am new at poker so thanks for your help to understand it better.

Hi @KIMW

Welcome to the forum.

The rules are you both make the strongest possible five card hand from the seven cards available to you. In this second example you both have a pair of aces but you have a pair of nines also on the turn putting you ahead. On the river when a second king comes both of you are now using two aces and two kings as your strongest option. We call this counterfitting, as your pair of nines no longer plays. So now it comes down to who has the best kicker to go along with his AA KK and it's your opponents T which beats your 9.

Keep posting up any questions you have and we'll be happy to help you learn.

Welcome to the forum Smile Getting counterfeited is very annoying! Especially when for example if you have 88 all-in against AQ and the board comes 991010K or something!

You also say you are multi-tabling MTT's? Just a bit of advice that I would ask any more questions you have so that you understand more before multi-tabling!
