I've had a bit of a disconnection with football, particularly England, since I went to all the home games and 90% of the away games including friendlies in the 2006/2007 qualifying period for the Euro 2008 tournament, went to some random countries and spent quite a bit of money (and risking health in some countries lol). The team failed to qualify (I'd have been guaranteed tickets up until the quarter finals, with a good chance at the semi finals - had we got there obviously). It wasn't that they failed to qualify, it's that the players didn't give a fuck. The ONLY players who gave a damn were Steve Gerrard, David Beckham (when he played) and Paul Robinson. The fans put 1000x more effort and passion into it than the players did. I'll watch the England games if I'm not doing anything else and the knock out stages if we're still in

Tonight, I am in. Can't wait to see how France do. Giroud hoping to fire his team to glory and keep Wenger from replacing him. Pogba is set up to become the bestest ever in the world. Or maybe they will do a France and implode. Either way it will be awesome.

Albania vs Switzerland couldn't give a fuck.

Then we are on for Englands group, full team BBQ and beer fest organised. No kids, no women, football on main telly with FIFA on side telly playing the same game that we are watching, winner stays on for double football overkill.

Come on England! Keep it going into at least a second week! You know you've got another Semi defeat on penalties in you!

Being from Scotland I usually have to put money on a team so I have someone to support. Crying

I have Spain in the sweepstake that we have on the ship, and I've stuck £50 on Germany at 4/1 with BetFair to get me some free bets Smile

Yeah Germany are my pick. Break French hearts in the Semi and then take it down vs Spain in the final. Nothing goes to plan though in the groups so impossible to pick with this structure really.

What does everyone make of England's opener?

I can see the positives that the commentators and pundits where going on about. But they completely lacked creativity in and around the box. They didn't create anywhere near the chances they should have given the possession they had, and the attempts at goal were very hit and hope, even from Kane. Once they had the goal you just knew they would resort to same old England. "We have the lead so let's just try and get to the final whistle". The equalizer was inevitable. They can still get through groups but that will be it. Obviously I want them to go much further, especially since I drew them in a sweepstake at work. With that and a £5 bet at 50:1, I'd take £298 if they win the thing.

Looking forward to watching Germany today.

I think England got unlucky, lots of chances and dominated the game. They are lacking that creative type of player who can turn a game on its head, can't see them getting too far with the current manager. Shame about all the fights before and after the game, happens every tournament.

England were unlucky to an extent but a good team would be 3-0 up after that performance not clinging on at the end. Russia were absolutely useless and should have been put away. We won't have a game as easy as that again.

Few things I just cannot understand.

How Kane stayed on having a terrible game, especially after going 1-0 up. Vardy on to use his pace on the counter looked the easiest swap ever.
How Woy didn't make a change earlier in the second half as England lost their way.
How Lallana gets to start football matches given he is completely spent in 60 mins every game for Liverpool and England.
What a 'James Milner' is.
What happened to Sterlings confidence. Clearly still has ability but looks terrified all the time.
What magic Pochetino has coaching fullbacks. Shaw and Clyne at Southampton, now Rose and Walker. Walker especially was brilliant in the last few games.
What Rooney thinks the point of fading a 40 yard floated pass to the fullback every 5 minutes is.
What vegetable Woy will be when we get knocked out. I'm going with a sprout, after losing to Belgium in the knockouts with the headline "Brussels SPR-out"

I thought England had like won the last 10 games and had the best qualifying period ever or something? Now everyone wants the manager out after 1 game

I don't want Woy out, his team selection was fine, tactics fine, 60 mins or so it was all fine. Last 30 mins I just don't understand what he was doing. Got lucky with a screamer of a freekick but still couldn't take advantage. Also how the balls Kane is taking corners and freekicks? Just some really bizarre calls or lack of them when it was plain as day what was happening. I'm sure we will find a way to get out of the group still. There is a penalty defeat in the quarters with our name on.

I've went for a Poland and Germany double. 1.6/1.

Poland Yes

Hopefully Germany can do it tonight. I wasn't impressed with their qualification games, so they best pick it up in the group stages.

Yeah, I'm glad we managed to win our first game in Euro Cup history. We had some deep runs in World Cup but we never faired that well in the Euros. Polish team's game left something to be desired, but it was overall very solid and I'm hopeful when it comes to future matches.

Fucking England was so gutted when Russia scored in the dying minutes. We just did the same shit we have done for years. The first half was some of the best football I have ever seen just sadly we could not finish.

Rooney for me was epic and is the main man to help drive us forward.

some terrible scenes in Marseille with the locals and Russian ultras attacking England fans(although some may not be innocent) it seems the Russians are equipping themselves with mouthguards MMA mitts and weapons...must be a scary time for people just there to enjoy the football

I have supported rooney for years and told people even when he isn't scoring goals he will be the backbone of the team he has to be in the squad and the Russia game he was unreal, a completely comfortable role for him in midfield

Spain looked good today but lacked in the final third for the most part. I've missed a few games but the Germany Vs Ukraine game was quite fun. The next game I am REALLY looking forward to is Wales Vs England. Want both teams to go through so hopefully it's a draw and England win their final game.

Belgium are going to ruin my triple today. At 80 mins gone in Spain game I got Spain to win 1-0, Ireland vs Sweden draw and Belgium win. 25-1.

Fuck you Wilmots. How can you make this team of talent so shite!

They're playing the game in one of our meeting rooms at work so we don't miss it. But since I can't be arsed to make up 2 hours after work I'm gonna try and book the afternoon off. Should be a great game.
