Just a bankroll challenge

Posted 8 years ago

Hello guys,

I'm a new wannabe baller on this forum and I think that opening a poker journey thread will help me by keeping me motivated. Some basic information about me, I'm a 24 yr old technical university graduate from Romania, and since March I'm officially a professional poker player (and by that I mean that's my only income).

About the challenge:
I will play NL10, 6 max, regular tables, on PokerStars, and my goal is to win 1000$ until the end of the month (rackeback included). I play 9-12 tables, 6-10 hours daily, and I want to play at least 150000 hands until May 1st.

I will try to post daily updates, and that being said GL at the tables to everyone. MovieCool

The graph after 2 sessions looks like this:

I had to shut down the last session to stop losses because of some bad hands against fish that tilted me and made me lose about 5 stacks.

I will post some hands here because I can't post yet in the HH forum.

HI HATERS_1337

Welcome to the forum. How many tables are you playing at one time and how many hours? I am just curious to reach your goal that will be challenging but its good to know you have a stop loss in place if you start to tilt, I wish i did that when i started playing.

The hands

Hand 1 - make the opening raise to x4 if they limp pre, your out of position in the sb and they may fold pre flop. Hand 2 I think you played it fine just unlucky with the result. On the turn your a 79.5% favourite to win the hand before the river.

Hi daveo,

Firstly thank you for feedback. I play 8-12 tables, depending on how good the tables are at that moment and on the quality of my game at that time. My everyday goal is to dedicate at least 10hrs to poker. Before every session I watch a coaching/strategy video then I play some hands at NL2 as a warmup.

In the first hand it was a misclick preflop, I use StarsHelper and sometimes messes up my bet sizing, in a normal case I would have raised to 0.50$.

Thank you once again!

Wow hardcore grinder bro. I'll be following your thread, good luck at the tables

@squadgrinder Thanks man, good luck!

Session 3:

Today I studied more than played. I found some great material on this site about defending blinds preflop and postflop by w34z3l. So after studying the charts and watching the videos few times I decided to apply them. As it can be seen in the graph below my redline improved a lot. Because I was defending the blinds wider I couldn't put a lot of volume so I decided to reduce the number of tables to 6 until I get familiarized with this strategy. From tomorrow I will get back to my daily grinding schedule Punch .

Had some bad luck and lost three stacks, once with KK against AA preflop, and two times with AA, once villain called my UTG 4bet with JJ and shoves on J 3 8 rainbow flop and the other villain called 3bet ith 67s and made a straight on the river Crying .

I also have a hand where I'm not sure if I made the correct play.

@HATERS_1337 I've done exactly the same re the @w34z3l defending blinds vids and I've seen an instant improvement in results at my current stakes of 10nl👍🏻
Keep up the good work mate

@HOUDINI101 thanks man, u2!

Session 4:

Today was an awful session, missing most of the flops, missing draws, all my cbets getting called, bluffs caught and so on. I'm getting sick of losing always when holding a premium but that's variance I guess. My graph looks like a mix between a downswing and poor play (I hope is not only poor play).

Still, there is plenty of time until the end of the month and hopefully I pass this bad period.

Session 5:

Finally a good session, I am running good for the moment, hope that variance will be by my side from now Cool . Spewed some stacks with some crazy stupid bluffs but in the end it's still +8.5BI.

Wow that is one sick day there buddy! How do you feel when you step away from your computer after a grind like that?
Posted 8 years ago
@Jon-PokerVIP Thanks man, most of the time I feel sleepy because I end most of the session at late hours SleepyLaugh

Session 6:

Very bad session, another stop loss day Crying here are some of the hands:
- KK against J5 (80 VPIP fissh), goes all in on the flop with TP, hits trips on the river;
- All in preflop with QQ from SB against CO AK, hits the A;
- AK against QQ preflop (SB vs BB), I'm ahead on the flop but he hits the Q on the turn;
- AA against runner flush;
- AK against QQ again preflop, this time he hits quads;
- AK against TT preflop, I hit the A but he hits the T also.

So variance hit me in the nuts again but not giving up, a lot of time until the end of the month. Here is the graph:

Do you play late night sessions for any reason?
Posted 8 years ago
@Jon-PokerVIP well a normal session would start at 16:00 and end at 02:00 (if I don't hit the stop loss of course), the main reason is that the tables are better then, the fish/reg ratio is bigger than it is the rest of the day.
Posted 8 years ago
How many breaks do you take?
Posted 8 years ago
@Jon-PokerVIP Usually after each 2 hours I take a break.

Session 7 & 8:

Things get worse, I'm starting to think that maybe I do something really bad and I am a monkey pressing the buttons because I can't put together two winning sessions. I simply don't get it how is it possible to get KK all in when someone else has AA 3 times in a row (once 250bb deep) and whenever I get AA I end up stealing the blinds or getting rekt by the fish Angry . I will make a session review and post some hands in the HH forum. Anyway, the graph for these two sessions looks like this:

Session 9:

After reviewing the hand history for session 7 & 8 I found out that I spewed like 5 stacks because of bad decisions (mostly bad river calls), I lost a lot due to bad beats of course but even with that it should have been a break even session if I was playing corectly. It looks like tilt is still a big problem so I should work more on my mental game. Anyway, the today session was better, still getting some bad beats, but being aware of the last sessions I avoided stupid calls, after all folding never made anyone lose lots of money.

It doesn't seem like its bad river calls that your struggling with mate, that wOuld affect your blueline considerably.Its your red line which is worrying and needs work,which is an indicator of not losing set ups or calling too much at showdown,but more of huge leaks pre and post before showdown.
Posted 8 years ago
Yes I know that my redline needs a lot of work, I was talking in particularly about the session 7 & 8 that I lost 5 stacks due to some bad river calls after review (like 2 pairs on a 3 flush board for example). But yeah now the redline rings a bell for me, have to study more, thank you!
