Babies, Banter and Beating opponents

Posted 6 years ago

Hello one and all!

I've decided to start a new log of my poker endeavors. I've been quite inactive for a couple of months due to the new arrival of my son into the household. Apparently having a baby and playing online poker doesn't really work well together. The past couple of weeks I've been able to play a few hours in the evenings while he sleeps peacefully on my chest, all I can say is - The baby run good is real!! See below:

I've started playing 20NL speed poker on Winner, and my word the standard of play there is....just wonderful. I'm only a little over 5k hands in but the amount of outrageous stackoffs I have seen is just obscene. Couple that with 35% rakeback and I'm on to a juicy little earner so far.

The only problem is I can't play as many tables as I like, I've only been able to two table as I play from the couch which is a bit away from my desktop so need to max out the table sizes on each monitor to see them clearly. With this win rate though, I'm perfectly fine with lower volume!

I'll use this thread to post periodic updates of how I'm getting on, along with any interesting/amusing hands I come across along the way. Here's a few examples Laugh

Definitely one of the better sessions this evening bringing my Winner roll to >€1k from my initial €600 deposit within a couple week, exclusively from 20NL.

This was the highlight. After this hand I proceeded to make this player my absolute bitch throughout as we was keen to get involved with me, regardless of hand strength.

Yes for the new thread bro!

Sick hands there! Can deffo recommend Winner ha SurprisedLaugh

How's the litte'un doing now?
Posted 6 years ago
Little man is doing great, absolutely thriving! Got to play an absolute minuscule amount yesterday as every time I tried to sit down for a session he started acting up so in total I got around 150 hands in over three separate sessions for a marginal loss. Still over the €1k mark thigh with rakeback due into the account on Tuesday which will bring me closer to €1100!

Hopefully will get to put in a few hours later today Smile

Hey Fergal! Just curious to know if you have a hud working on the speed tables? PT4 used to work fine for me but just couldnt get it working last time i played there!
Posted 6 years ago
Hey Jef!

It was working at first....kind of. Basically with iPoker the speed poker tables are all labelled the same so HUDs cannot differentiate between them. So the HUD would be displayed on one table, and if I was dealt into a new hand on a different table THAT tables stats would be displayed but on the wrong table. That was at first, now the HUD just doesn't work even a little. It still displays but it just keeps jumping through random hands I've played so the stats being displayed could be from a player I played against in a previous session, very bizarre altogether!

I've been awfully lazy updating this thread but that's mainly because I've been playing very little with Christmas etc. I've started mixing in some play on Stars with my grind so I've full rolls on both sites now, combined value ~€1k + $1k on stars.

The few sessions I was playing on Winner went poorly, with the rakeback I was getting I maintained much of my roll but was still disappointing after my strong start. 25z on Stars has gone well but again volume is small. Total Dec graph below:

I'll probably put in some volume tonight the too. A few amusing hands have been added in for your reading pleasure Smile

Played for an hour and a half or so this evening, it was a hard fought break even session!

Culprit hands were KK < 66 for 120bb pre and 99 < A7s for 70bb pre. Got it back though so not the worst result in the world!
Posted 6 years ago
Cheers Fergal! I really don't mind not using a hud as long as my opponents do not have that as an advantage! Played my first couple of sessions back on 20nl speed poker yesterday and really enjoyed it! You weren't exaggerating when you said how soft the games were Smile
Posted 6 years ago
the cool thing about it is that the pool is actually quite small, so if you’re quit dedicated when you build up a decent sample on a few of the regs you can note some of their key stats manually by looking them up in your database since all hands are tracked. You won’t have a fully functional HUD but you’ll have a decent idea of things like VPIP/PFR/3B/Fold3B or whatever you wanted. Like here’s maybe 20-30 guys there that I played with an absolute bunch in the 7-8k hands I’ve played there.
Posted 6 years ago
Yeah totally agree! Very small pool and even the regs seem pretty poor/crazy! Fun example just now versus a multi tabling reg...........

Another less than stellar session:

Obviously I ran bad but I played absolutely awfully as well. Some of my stack offs were just absurd, don’t know what I was thinking. Another great escape though!!!

It's not too bad! Nice little climb up towards the end!

How has January been so far?
Posted 6 years ago*
I have been exceptionally lazy updating this thread, mainly because updating during downswings is nowhere near as much fun! I had started playing on stars and ran up a couple hundred profit from the end of last year and very start of this year, then ran like dick. I ended up rage withdrawing funds from there and have moved back to Winner exclusively.

Good grief, it's easy enopugh for you as it is and still they queue up to help out! Cool

Good to see you still able to play with the little one in the house. I think that was the end of it for me, they just take up so much time haha plus mine was attracted to my laptop like moth to a lightbulb. GL on your journey.

Yeh I absolutely couldn’t play on my laptop! He gets really distracted by lights so what I do is let him conk out on my chest then play on my desktop which is maybe a metre away so the light doesn’t bother him as it’s not too bright/he isn’t facing it!

Do you not have like a crate to put them in

Slowly but surely ticking up the roll, sitting at about €1150 now. Unsure what I’m going to do about moving up, it really sucks that the higher limits don’t run on the speed poker games, might need to start playing reg tables for 50NL+. Will likely start playing then when I hit €1500, I won’t be exclusively playing 50NL then though as sometimes the convenience of being able to jump in the speed pool trumps playing the higher stakes.

Hand from last night:
Villain is an active three bettor. I perceived him as a high % c-Bettor as have seen him get to showdown with some weird hands where he threebet pre then fired with very low equity hands. HUD doesn’t work on speed tables so was going from memory, after checking his stats it turns out he actually has a very low flop c-bet of 31% so could be a sampling error there. Thoughts on line?
