Birthday challenge

Posted 8 years ago

I hate to do this, but I have no choice. I cannot push myself to keep putting hands in. Going public with my challenge will at least make me feel embarrassed if I fail, or I should say when I fail, because all the challenges and targets I have set were either wrong or I failed them. This one is important.

I have to play 133k hands till the end of February. 6max, NL10, I will adjust the number of tables I play, but it will be around 4-8. I do not care how good or bad I run, I will not post about that.

I plan to play 1500 hands a day Mon-Thu, 3000 on Fri and 5000 on Sat and Sun. I will post how I get on with it here.

I am not looking for attention. This is for myself, motivation Smile

Wow this looks epic! Do you not plan to have any days off at all??

Another day, another dollar Smile Not checking results for 2 days in a row! This has never happened ever before. It is like giving up smoking - itching to get a drag, but feeling great spending a day with no fag.

Oh and no, I haven't planned any breaks or days off. I am sure I will have them, but I will try to play those hands on other days.

Fantastic! Just by posting something like this on here will help inspire you to keep at it. Good luck dude! 😃

Yeh i am curious about this.

And yeh this thread is an inspiration for sure. Not sure if you ever read it or have even seen it but i did a 150k hand in a month challenge once and blogged it all. You can see it Here

Day 3, snowed first time today and I got cold, not feeling 100%. Still happy with my grind today. 3 out of 3 happy days!

@colly191091 It was weird not looking at results first day. I was used to refreshing my balance after every bigger pot. Whatever it shows, it is never good. Knowing that I am winning can be as bad as losing or even worse.
I love Pokerstars and I hate it at the same time. I am used to that skin, system, sounds, navigation, player note taking, marking, easy table selection, easy seat feature, table layouts etc. They do not offer the best rakeback and their rake sucks, but I feel comfortable here. I have tried lots of different sites and all of them just miss something... I do not want to start an argument about the player pool on one or another site, but there are fish everywhere. I have my way of playing and being comfortable and no other site can make me feel that way at the moment.

@Jon-PokerVIP Thanks again Jon. I have read some of your challenge, will continue to read more. I found some valuable ideas there.

Oh nice glad you took the time to read it. For me i look at it now and again and think i am going to do this for another month. What was nice was showing everything. Nothing was left out and i spoke about my mood and balancing it with work. There were many ups and downs and a certain site/stake where i lost at a phenomenal rate for no reason at all.

Get well soon and keep crushing.

It was hard to get it done today. I am sure Saturdays and Sundays will be extremely hard too. 10k hands in next two days... OMG

Can anybody explain to me what is attributed, contributed, share and taken rake in PT4? Which one do I use to see how much rake I have paid? I am lost here...

*sessions here is table sessions, not how many separate sessions (sit downs) I had Laugh

This is something one can put up on the wall.

Day 5 is over. I have fallen behind with my target. I was feeling tired and decided to stop for tonight. I need to increase my tables to 8 somehow. Playing 4-6 tables is a suicide.

I have checked my results today, it has been 5 days in a row not checking! New world record for me Laugh

There we go

I will continue to grind hard. My goal next week is to increase tables to 8 at least. For that I must stop having my ranges open on the 2nd monitor lulz... gotta stop doing that. 6 tables is too damn slow and boring.

Overall I am very happy with how it went this week. I am going to chill tomorrow, spend some time with family. I will try to play a bit, but not 5k hands. I will catch up later!

P.S. plus I got 35$ RB from all this, so total winnings reaching somewhere around $150, not bad?! Smile

I am slightly behind, but will catch up. Started playing 8 tables.

Yeh 4-6 tabling is never easy to keep up with volume but seriously sick work on the results.

Not checking the results is such a positive if checking them has always been a negative so keep that up!

Your red line - is this how it normally looks or do you think you are maybe missing some spots by playing such long hours?
Posted 8 years ago*
1510 hands in today. 8 tabling. I want to be 10 tabling confidently by the end of the challenge. I am sure I will be rocking and rolling, just need to get used to it.

@Jon-PokerVIP Yea, not checking results is what I need to keep playing best poker. I will stick with that. Check only once a week or so, just to know when to move up/down etc.
My red line has always been like this... down at around 7-10bb/100. I am surely missing some spots, but it is more due to not knowing rather than being tired. I am working on the red line at the moment. Smile Have you got any tips?

Generally after doing 300+ player reviews at these stakes it always comes down to one if not all of these things

- Never 3Bet bluffing
- Playing poorly in the blinds - 3betting when we can flat and play well in position post flop.
- Not Cbetting in good spots.
- Not caring about small pots.
- Not betting when it is obvious no one has anything and we can just win the pot

Super simple stuff!

Thank you Jon! I am looking into all of them. My biggest trouble spots are the last two. It isn't rocket science, you are right, but keeping focus and just taking these small +EV spots. I tried something out today, literally full focus on the small pots who nobody wants. Will see how my red line looks on Sunday. 3betting and 3betting the right range in the right places is almost there, but still, could be pushed to the max.
