Grinding it up!

Posted 8 years ago

Hi Guys,

It's been a long time since i posted something on the forum. The guys at PokerVIP set me up with an awesome RB deal at Coral, so for the moment i ditched Pokerstars. I have some small goals for 2016, but first i want to introduce myself.

I'm a 23 year old student from The Netherlands and i currently live with my girlfriend in Eindhoven. I loved poker from the start, but i wasn't very good at it unfortunately. I began reading books, watch some video's and i got a little bit better. I still play micro stakes, but at the end of 2016 i hope to play atleast 20NL on the iPoker network. My first goal is to make about $1000 while grinding from 2NL to 20NL. If i reach my goal earlier then expected, i will adjust and try to move up.

At the moment i'm still learning, and that's also my main focus. So expect alot of hands! I play with the Tiltbreaker app on, so that i have a stop/loss to prevent tilt, and also take some breaks while i'm at it. It's a bit annoying, but i'm sure i'll thank myself in the future :).

Cheers!

Sweet! Looking forward to your journey! Laugh

Do you play reg or speed tables?

What books have you read? I'd highly recommend The Mental Game Of Poker! Helped me so much with Tilt!

At the moment i'm reading blackrain's book on beating the micro stakes. Mental Game of Poker is definitely on my list!
I play reg tables, but on pokerstars i used to play Zoom Smile

How are you finding Blackrain's book? I've been meaning to read it! It's a pity it's only available in Ebook format! I would love a physical copy

Nice! Why did you make the switch to reg tables?

The first book is pretty straightforward but still good. The second book is more advanced. I'm still at the first one and i love it Smile The way he explains everything is pretty easy to understand.

Hi Exposured, interesting you like that book it seems to be very popular but I haven't read it myself.

Good idea to have that tilt management under control, it's one of the biggest killers of a win rate at micros so nice job.

You'll find plenty of help getting to your goal of moving up with the guys and gals on here, so ask lots of questions.

Work hard, but have fun. Yes

Thanks Pwll Smile

So, Tiltbreaker told me i had to take a break for 30 minutes, which is fine. So i'm just going to post here. At the moment i'm not going to post graphs yet. Why? Simply because when i think everything is going the way it should, my graph just looks shitty. I also have a stop/loss on TiltBreaker in place, so there is not that much that can go wrong. Mindset-wise i still have to work on my game.

I also tried the Jivaro HUD for Pokerstars. It looks cool, but it's not suited for Zoom cashgames on stars. It's just way too laggy. So i'll stick with PT4. Expect some hands later today because i have some questions regarding my play.

Hello Exposured and good luck with your challenge! Smile

I never understood the point of apps like tiltbreaker. I would get tilted as hell if any app would close my poker client or something simillar. Smile
I don't even like to use stop loss rules of any kind.

The only rules that apply to me are:
- solid bankroll (30 buy ins are more than enough for a normal player)
- decent state of mind

Cheers!

PS: curious about the graph Smile

Hi Balonas,

Sounds logical. My problem was that i could play solid poker and get angry about 2 bad beats in a row. After that i would just make stupid bluffs in order to hit a 2 outer on the river (which obviously never came). So that's why tiltbreaker is good for me. Also i like to grind alot of hours when i don't need to do anything for school. And by that i mean at least 9 hours without stopping. This is / was not healthy, so i decided to learn the hard way and use this app.

I think that everyone has a decent state of mind, but poker can get to you sometimes. I'm also curious about the graph, but i won't post it until next week (haven't even seen it myself).

Cheers!

Wussssssssup!

Love seeing you back posting and very best of luck with this journey! With you all the way and will look daily for reports.

Tiltbreaker is a great tool and it just stops any stupidness. The main thing is you know its a problem, found the solution and now will do better for it. That's the difference between a winning player and a losing player. WP

TY Jon! Smile Tiltbreaker is awesome so far, although it can be annoying when i hit my stop/loss. I just want to continue playing. And that is just the reason i have Tiltbreaker. Playing marathon sessions is fun, but not when i'm spewing away all my chips.

Is there a way to work on my mindset? Are there some good books? I know it's a mathematical certainty that you lose with the best hand, and i learned not to get angry at things you can't control. But still ..... I have to work on this. These things helped me alot:

- Not looking at graphs while in a session (either if i'm winning or losing, that doesn't really matter)
- Take regular breaks
- Use TiltBreaker.
- Learn!

I learned a lot from watching your vid's, so keep posting more please!

So, just to get in my comfort zone i'm going to play NL2 first. After about 100K hands (yes rly) i'm moving up if my BR allows it.
Posted 8 years ago
Also, i'm not playing on Pokerstars anymore. I think there is more value in my awesome rakeback and bonus deal, so i just keep going at it at iPoker.

I'm getting fairly annoyed at the fact that 2NL is so extremely stupid! ....
Posted 8 years ago
I think a fair amount of the time it's the disregard for the amount of money, but that's just a guess. Of course, ability is mainly lower which probably accounts for a lot if to, but I couldn't guess at which has more impact. Maybe it's just beer! Laugh

By your giraffe it looks like you wont be there long enough to find out anyway! Nice job!

Great attitude! It is not just always about winning but also about learning. If you keep that mind frame you will go far in the game.

Whats the plan for Feb?
