Finding my grind again

Posted 8 years ago

Hi PokerVip!

I'm Nicklas, 40+ family man from Sweden. Started playing poker when the boom started in 04. Always played at pokerstars and made a living playing both sngs and cash game. Beat nl100 pretty good back then. Nowadays Im not much more than break even at nl25 at PS. Poker have not been much fun last couple of years as the game been getting tougher. Been making a couple of tries getting back in but I always just ragequit when finding out the games are that tough.

I have decided to try one last time to get back on the poker track. One thing is for sure, pokerstars is not for me anymore as I already said.. too many eastern european quite competent grinders making my life hell att the tables. I dont really care about the money at the moment since bot me and the wife have pretty ok jobs supporting the family. I just want to find my happiness at the tables again, just want to think that poker is a fun game once again.

I found 10 euros in my unibet account and decided to try the site out. Bit uncomfortable in the beginning playing without a hud but quickly getting used to it. I have ran my 10 euros up to 80 playing nl4, some plo4 and even some sngs and small mtts for 1$ for fun and games and for completing challenges and missions and I it has been a lot of fun so far. The games are of course really great at the levels Im playing so far but I have decidedto not deposit but instead grind myself up.

So my goals are as follows:

Play a maximum of 4 tables cash and maybe an mtt on the side.
Grind NLHE as my main game and take a 5 buyin shot at nl10 when I reach 150 euros.
Play some mtts when I feel like it
Primariy just have fun

Currently in my account:
80.04 euros
4.30 plo cash ticket. have played some on this one and I need 139 ,more flops and some run good to cash in.
3 1euro MTT-tickets
1 2euro saturday stack ticket
1 5euro sunday entitled qualifier ticket

Wish me luck! Smile

Hey buddy welcome to the forum and really looking forward to following your progress.

Will it truly be the last time and what do you count as a failure/success?

Seems you are doing a really good job currently and Unibet is a perfect site choice. I actually have a Unibet micro series coming out soon so keep a look out for that.

What do you do outside of poker?

Jon-PokerVIP: Hey buddy welcome to the forum and really looking forward to following your progress.
Hey Thanks, nice to be here! I like this community vry much so far. Smile

Will it truly be the last time and what do you count as a failure/success?
Probably not :P. Well.. I count not having fun as a big failure this time.. If I feel that Im not having fun and don't even look forward to play poker again.. then I actually don't really know why I should play any more. If I can get to say NL25 and beat it at a decent clip and maybe earn somewhere between 3-700 euros a month I would be really happy. Poker paying for a holiday abroad for the whole family or something along those lines would be just great. I dont see myself going any higher than nl50 probably but we'll see.

Seems you are doing a really good job currently and Unibet is a perfect site choice. I actually have a Unibet micro series coming out soon so keep a look out for that.
Great, looking forward to that one.. have been watching some of your william hill series and those videos are great!! I agree that unibet is an ideal site for me getting back my poker mojo again.. Lots of fun things to do, juicy very little variance games and no distration looking at holdem graphs and red lines that have been a weakness of mine last couple of years. Just having my bankroll figures as the only way of measuring success is really helpful to my state of mind poker wise. Looking forward to advance up in stakes again.

What do you do outside of poker?
I work at the biggest brewery in Sweden. I work at the soda/water department and I also make wine for our ciders.

Your job sounds sick! How much free booze do you get? LOL

Ye it is never anyones last time truly - the game has a sick way of pulling you back in the door just as you think you have left the building.

Haha, not that much free booze Im afraid. We get a hefty ranson every big holdiay, like easter, christmas, midsumer.. but thats it. I get to buy stuff with wrong caps, broen labels etc really cheap though so no complains here Smile And of course I like my job.

Just playing short sessions now and have been really since I started playing on unibet February 2nd. Lately it is because my family had a bit of a hit. Tuesday last week we found out my oldest daughter Agnes had gotten Diabetes type 1. We drove to the ER and we stayed in the hospital full time from tuesday until sunday when we could go home. It will be a struggle for the family initially but we will be fine. Agnes is doing really good taking her insulin shots 5-6 days a day. Poker is keeping me sane these days letting me focus on something else for a while. Played quite a lot when we stayed in the hospital. Now we get to stay at home and she will go back to school thursday but we will stay in school with her for the rest of the week.

Just played a short session today and it I hit some hands and got paid off. No really good way to share unibet hands but I will share some hands with you eventually. Just playing really tight and disciplined poker and it of course gets the job done at nl4.

45 mins of play , won 6,64 euros.

Bankroll: 101,46

Not bad playing just plo4 and nl4. Initially I wanted to play only plo but I feel that the value is better in holdem on unibet and my PLO game is quite lousy even though I enjoy the game very much. Smile Will probably play another short session tonight and maybe an mtt or two on the side.

Played for 2 more hours and won some more. Played really well but lost a stak in one of the last hands of the sessions. 3bet a co open with my AQs and could not find a fold on A22 when he checkraised all-in for almost a full stack. Well.. time to hit the sack, back to the hospital again tomorrow morning.

2h45 min of play today. +11,50

Bankroll: 106,32

Really sorry to hear about your daughter buddy. How good is the medicine for diabetes at that age nowadays? From the outside i would imagine they have it pretty much sussed now?
Posted 8 years ago
Thanks Jon!! Yes.. they have made very good progress in the last couple of years. She can live just as any other 11-year old, she just need to take her insulin shots.. that is all. She started going back to school today and we went with her for the whole day. It went just fine.

Pokerwise today I played 1h50 and made 7,46 euros. Played some PLO on my 4$ ticket. Only 95 flops left to cash in on the ticket but I only have a bit over 3E left on the ticket..

Bankroll now: 113,78

When I move up to nl10 eventually Im thinking of buying holdem indicator just track my results.

Have anyone used it to track unibet? Does it work allright? Is it allowed by unibet? I know that huds are not allowed of course. Just would be nice to know my winrate at different levels etc.

Thanks Johnny, good to have you here! Smile I think Pokerstars is still probably the best place to play sngs. The volume is great and still possible to make some good money there. I used to play the 180mans at the 2,50$level and won a couple of thousand bucks. I dont understand people playing microlimit cash at stars though, there are clearly better options out there.

My daughter is fine, we learn so much every day. It is probably getting us even closer as a family.

Yesterday and first session today was a bit meh, got into a couple of coolers but nothing special.

Swingy day today. Played the most I've played in a day since I started this. Played 3h17, won 4,86E.

The week went Ok. Won 26,32 in NLHE in 11,5h. Ran good at the beginning of the week and bit worse in the weekend. Lets hope I can move up to nl10 pretty soon, why not even next week? 150 is still the goal for moving up.

Every post shows a bigger bankroll! Pretty epic stuff man.

Thanks Jon! Smile Had another small winning day. Played for only 1h10 as I got too tired to play an evening session. Won 1,16. Was rather swingy session again. Got 2-outed on the river TWICE in big pots and still won for the day, gotta be happy with that.

Did not play yesterday.

Sick sick day at the tables today, my biggest winning day so far. Won 25,83 in 1h40. Hit everything left and right and got payed off like a boss. One guy went allin every hand, I called him down with KK and won 170bb against his 64s. I lost a flip with AK vs TT so it was not all smooth sailing. I was meaning to register for a 1$ mtt with a ticket but misclicked and payed from my balance instead. Bricked it with AKs real early. Really close to be taking a first shot at nl10. Just a bit more than one euro left. Hopefully I get it tomorrow. 4nl at unibet is just insanely soft and I really like the switching avatar three times a day scheme.

By the looks of your bankroll you've been playing like @Jon-PokerVIP . I watched his Unibet series and it looks like a goldmine there - and a minefield no doubt!

So you're going to take a shot at nl10 with 150? What's the plan, move back down at 120 maybe if it goes sour? Obviously we'd prefer to just crush it and move up to nl20, I know! Cool My own shot is going very oddly with up and down stuff happening daily (remember the minefield? Laugh ), but so much fun.
