NL10 AJo

Posted 8 years ago

Pre AJo is in my bluff 3bet range BTN vs MP and with it being a squeeze spot with tight MP and weak CO adding money I think its OK pre. Flop I think all his PP's that call and every Ax will call so why bet and check back hoping to pick up some equity. Turn TPTK and he leads. Not super happy about it but never folding. River he fires again and I think with this tight a player can he really have anything in his value range I beat and does he ever bluff here? Splitting vs AJ might be my best outcome even? Still T changes nothing really so feel like I have to call.

Seems I play a little differently but that's nice for discussion!

I would find it tough to squeeze a 17/11 MP OR with AJ and probably hardly even call for me. The main reason being it's hard to know where I stand postflop. I think what exacerbates the problem is the flop. It not only misses both our ranges by miles, if I cbet say 30% what will villain fold, maybe not even overcards.
That brings it's own problems, since I now can't rep overpairs on the turn because we'd mostly cbet them or raise villain's bet. If I call that turn bet my hand is nearly face up Jx or weaker imo, so villain can barrel anything on the river.

I'd call the river and expect to see a slowplayed JJ+ or a sticky set often but it's hard to tell with these guys I suppose, they can sometimes get sticky and spazz out after you show weakness with 99 or something as well.

tl;dr I'd fold preflop and call AJs.

Think AJo is an okay bluff pre. Our sizing is super big though, I'd make it like 10-11BB here. I'd personally cbet this board, Villian might fold an occasional AQ (don't think he has AK here) and we don't really mind him folding his random 5 outers. Think this board favors our range over his aswell. As played I call down here. I think QQ+ 4bets here preflop so we can be fairly confident to have the best hand here a majority of the time.

I don't mind the 3bet bluff.
KK and AA I expect a 4 bet pre. Sets are unlikely as I think this villain may fold the pairs that small OOP but you never know.
JJ another possibility but again unlikely as we block it.

The question I'm asking is WHY is opponent leading the turn?
He could have TT and be protecting on the turn from AK or AQ realising equity after the check back flop.
Same for QQ, stopping a free showdown. Both beat us on the river now... and I personally don't see a bluff from this player here.
We don't beat any of his value range.
People say QQ 4bets pre, but I'm seeing a lot more flats these days to 3bets from a TAG player. His low 3bet might be a clue to that too.

I think preflop is fine.
Flop I check this back too, almost no hands he folds.
Turn is obviously a call and I expect him to do this not only with his made hands but also with hands that have little showdown value to get us off of our AK or AQ hands which make sense we check back on flop. For the same reason I call the river too and see what he's got.

Cool, did make the call and got showed KK. I guess he flat to keep CO in/ make him spaz. WP NH.

I think that's a very good 3bet pre. For two reasons. First of all, you have solid fold equity vs. the reg (not super amazing given his low PFR) especially because he has to act first and you get a chance to iso weak overcaller with a solid hand.

As for the postflop, flop and turn are pretty obvious. The river is really close. You're near the top of your range (you don't have any straights, flushes or sets on this board) but villain has the range advantage (he can have some of the sets) and it's unclear how often tight NL10 villain will bluff here but I suspect that the answer to this question is "not very often". Equally, you're getting good odds so... yeah it's super close. Fold is probably better given the info we have but can't really blame you for calling.

I like it. I play pre the same way though I'd be happier about it if villain was looser.
Flop I don't think betting accomplishes much and all his better A-highs are calling the bet so check is good.
Once turn comes Jx folding isn't really as option since you beat all other TP and bluffs so call down and feel ok about it.

I think that v a 17/11 at 10nl that calling the river is close between horrendous and a disaster. He litrally has no bluffs here and we lose to his entire vale range.
Posted 8 years ago
River is a pretty easy call. Maybe not that many bluffs but we have close to the top of our range and villain could be value betting worse.

@StratoMan What is an 11/17 at 10nl betting for value that is worse here? Or bluffing? I'm very curious to know.

Given he is in MP his opening range is going to be even tighter than 11 and he isn't calling our 3b without a pocket pair or AK/AQs. He doesn't bluff here ever IMO and doesn't value bet 99.

I would be fairly confident he turns up here with QQ, KK, JJ, TT 85%+

Preflop fine, probably don't need to squeeze so large.

Flop check back is fine, we don't really hit super hard or anything and can go for a delayed cbet or hope to improve.

When we spike the Jx we should likely just be calling two streets. I don't think we should be super excited about it since most guys at these limits probably don't immediately launch into a 2 barrel buff after we check the flop. Probably a lot more likely he is value-betting overall. But we have to draw the line somewhere and I doubt I'd fold TPTK vs this sizing.
