5NL - JJ

Posted 7 years ago

So we re-ISO pre and on this flop I was planning to go for a c/c F (or c/c T if flop checked through). I honestly can't remember why I bet R, so it was probably not a good reason. I guess a c/c line would've worked better? So this whole hand after the flop confuses me. Critique welcome...

I would be betting the flop for value. Unlikely hehas a Q, expect PP to call at least one and depending on UTG+1's fishness (he did limp), he prob calling with high cards.

I like a bet bet ,c-c line on the river or c-f depending on river runout and their sizing.

I don't mind checking the flop and calling some turns. If he's bad, he might stab some worse pairs putting us on AK etc and having JJ here to call with protects our missed AK and smaller pairs we do this with.

I think it gets a bit more problematic when we take the line I advised and face a river barrel too but I'm mostly just going to call down unless facing an overbet or my opponent has stats that demonstrate they're very passive.

Preflop: From SB I would have added another couple of blinds in, but no problem with that size either.

Flop:
When I check the flop it just looks so weak they can do what they like and we have to capitulate too often. Villain limp/called and yes they can have Qx or even an overpair, but if they do, so beit imo.

I may be too aggro here but a Q is unlikely as previously stated so I bet and not small either. If villain can limp/call for 14 bigs he can call enough on the flop to set up the turn shove, especially on that perceived blank.

Turn: I'm all in even if it's an overbet, this villain is fearless and obviously inelastic to our sizings.

I don't 'play poker' or get to any depth of thinking this or maybe that versus these guys.

I am of course available for target practice.

Checking flop isn't bad as we can induce some bluffs from worse PP and just random bluffs. But betting is also fine because we just likely have the best hand so often and will still get calls from worse PPs. It just depends how you think you can get value for probably 2 streets.

I'd have definitely bet the turn though. This guy IS a fish and if we make him fold a nothing hand then that's ok, but he will call looser than some anyway.
Also our hand is too strong on this board vs this guy to miss out a street of value.

Once he shoves then just fold the river.
People won't generally bluff shove a river like this, especially on this board. Even a fish. Sometimes we can call overbet shoves with 1 pair hands, but usually earlier in the streets when they can have draws/equity (meaning they can bluff shove more) and are playing weirdly anyway.
