Anon bvb 4bet bluff.

It's bottom of my 4bet range from here but my opponent has been rather busy and I need to try these things out.

Preflop:
Opponent tank/called the 4bet but not sure if that's significant.

Flop:
Not much point betting out, it's fairly dry and I expect I only get called by better Kx or AA anyway and I don't think bb has AA most times.

Turn:
Since bb didn't bet out I assumed he didn't have it because in a 4bet pot ppl don't generally mess about if they have it and I'd expect a cbet, so I guess I'm ahead most times and bet out.

I don't think I'm folding to the shove either am I? Did I bet too much/too little/should I just get to showdown?

This is very new stuff obviously, what player type do I use this against normally? Bare in mind I don't get fancy stats at anon.

Thanks.

I honestly think you over value bluffs postflop , i would of likely of checked turn as'well to try and induce a bluff on the turn ,if he checks back turn we can extract some value on the river with 1/3 or 1/2 pot bet. I don't see bet calling turn as being very +ev. Sure he can have a few bluffs maybe some Ax flush draws 97 spades ,

i just think vs his range including a few bluffs KK+,22,AKs,KQs,AsQs,AsJs,9s7s, 7s8s AKo your hand has around 15% - 20 % equity , you need somewhere around 38% equity to break even on a call , i just don't think you get close to that.

@LFCchris , Oh no, it's not that I overvalue bluffs, I just don't know what I'm doing with this stuff yet so I can't do that, hence the post. I'm still at the 'Oh, I haz K blocker, I'll try this out' stage. Laugh Also just getting going properly on equity, so situations like these are grey area for me yet.

Thanks, this was a fun hand. Smile

A simple calculation you can use for the equity is , equity x total pot - call , so just keep plugging equity in your calculator until you reach a break even point on a call, to see how much equity you need in certain spots.

So here 136 bb in the pot , and your call is 57 bb

.42 x 136 - 57 = 0.12

so i make it 42% equity is your break even spot on a call here. Just play around with equliab and run some ranges and equity calculations to see how much you need in certain spots. I cant say i know exactly at the tables when playing , but do enough work and play enough hands and youll be pretty darn close to getting the decisions correct.

If you haven't got equilab you can find it here at , The PokerStrategy.com Equilab , its a free equity tool.

1. Absolutely no shame in trying stuff out. We're all here to learn, just that sometimes the tuition is expensive. In general, trying stuff out is better in position vs OOP.

2. This is just imho, but the whole "I haz blocker" idea is overemphasized. Ace blockers, fine, but past that, it's getting dicey. BvB, most of his Kx are calling your original bet, not 3betting. So if he 3bets, I'm only counting aces as blockers.

3. Most micro V's won't turn a made hand into a bluff, and in a 4bet pot, that's mostly what he'll have (PPs and AK/AQ). Some JTs or Axs but not much. His PP have SDV and aren't likely to try and bluff you off of a better PP.

4. Flop I can go either way, as long as you have a plan. As played, check was fine for the reasons you stated. Turn card changed nothing, so stick with your plan. Let him stab once with TT, and if he stabs twice, you should fold. Because it's an anon table (and I have 0 experience with them), I can't say how tricky V's are here, but I'm not calling this shove. If all he had was a FD or air, he prob tries to pounce on the flop and end it quickly. There is also some merit to betting, but only if you think V will try and outplay you if you check it. Floating 4bet pots is pretty rare.

5. I think it's always important to remember why we played a specific hand. We don't call an UTG raise with 87s to flop top pair, so we're not calling 3 streets with it. Here, we were pretty much on a stone cold bluff pre, so the fact that we lucked into a pair shouldn't alter our thinking too much. Yeah it was nice, but let's not go (more) broke with it.

If you give me good enough odds, I'll wager he showed up with 66 for a turned set. Angry

Wow, that's great stuff @CycleVancouver thank you very much! I'll have to come back to read it again though, I only have limited space in my little mind.

And then you went and spoiled it all, by saying something like...66. Hahaha, you lost half your kudos points!. No, Vill showed TT actually, but whatever.

Really big ty. Smile
