So just curious if on this hand calling 2 streets is Ok. I think the call preflop is OK. Obv as played, call on the flop is good with TPTK, even though its not an incredibly strong TP. I was just looking at all the other hands I could have here and sort of thought that this might be a marginal turn call as I have some stronger hands that can continue here. I know some of those might go into a raising range, but just curious about what others thought. Starting to try and visualize my range as a whole in spots like this, which is a process for me. To me it looks like my range is decent here. Did some equilab work and looks like against his entire range that would 2 barrel, weighting for FDs, I still have an equity advantage, but still unsure

Villain: 18/13/6.1 over 360 hands. 3bet from BU 9.4 over 32 possible CBF 75% CBT 50% but those are overall not in 3bet pots alone

I do think pre flop is a fold OOP with AJ against a 18/13. If we hit our A or J (like we did), I'm not really loving life and it will be very hard to play OOP. We can't really call three streets on Axx or Jxx.

After calling I think I'd fold the turn vs this player type. They seem rather nitty and I don't expect them to barrel that wide.

I would likely prefer a 4b fold here. They are wide but we are out of position. They are 3b ~ 10% here which is reasonably wide. Calling feels like you will get owned and put in bluff catching awkward spots on flops you connect with or low boards where AJ retains a reasonable amount of value.

I don't like calling these hands OOP. It's a great hand to 4 bet bluff with.

As played flop is an easy call.

Turn would be a fold for me. He doesn't look aggressive and KQ got there as well. There's also quite a few two pair combos he can have.

yeah that all makes sense. I kind of thought the turn call was a little bit too optimistic a splayed, hence the reason I posted this hand

Also, not a big fan of passive defend. The thing is that you don't have to adjust aggressively against a 18/13. He's not trying to exploit you so don't exploit yourself by over-adjusting.

If I am reading this right "passive defend" --> fold pre and "you don't have to adjust aggressively" --> best not to 4b bluff this hand pre?

It is a great hand to bluff 4bet with (blockers wise + where it sits in our range) but not vs. someone who might not ever bluff 3bet you. I'm simply not the fan of trying to play optimally vs. 18/13 guy at NL10 when you can just leave him be with his highly flawed gameplan without consequences and focus on what's important at this limit - exploiting your average overly loose and passive opponents. I'm a big fan of: "Doing the right things is more important than doing things right" line of thinking.

Interesting that there is a fair few people advocating a 4bet bluff here, this would not be the type of hand that I would typically choose to put in a 4bet bluff here. Maybe that will be something I look to incorporate into my game.

My standard line vs this type of player who is reasonably nitty but has shown some propensity for 3betting from the BTN would be to call here. Flop then is a no brainer call but the turn is potentially a fold since I'm not sure how often people are barreling this board with worse hands, the only hand I can think of would be AQ that has picked up some added equity with the open ender.

@MattVIP What would be the tipping point for you in terms of where you would be 4b AJs Calling Pre Folding Pre?

It obviously depends on the amount of info I have on the opponent, table dynamics etc. but as a general rule I'd have to play against something who's competent enough to bluff 3bet here with decent frequency. So not a 18/13 guy with value 5-6% 3bet, more like a 22/20 guy 3beting 8-9%. This is obviously just an approximation.
