5NL - JJ (turn spot)

Posted 8 years ago

Anon. Not sure on this turn spot whether I should've bet it or checked back and played a smaller pot on the river? My thinking for betting the turn here was that my 2P was probably ahead here and that it was less likely he had an A, so I could get value from Tx, 7x, other pairs, draws. He could also fold and we take the pot down on the turn. He c/c the turn and led river. I'm not too worried about the river spot here, just the turn spot. These players pretty much play face up and this river bet is likely just straight value here, I think the weakest they'd lead on the river is top 2P, but even that is weak considering the board has the pair.

I like your turn bet. I would usually bet myself on a paired A with the intention of checking back the river. This way we get value from Tx and draws which aren't folding and we don't have to pay a guessing game on the river if they lead out.

As played I'm expecting to see Ax quite often on the river, I would muck.

I might consider checking back the flop vs. some players, but I like your line by default given the limit. Well played.
