V a standard 21/16/3 but weak postflop and seems capable of folding a lot by the turn. Lots of one and done cbettting stuff, the usual.

So I'm looking at the board and have bdfd and an overcard. I can hit a Q/9/K/A or club to improve but a T probably wont change much, seems like a call to me on the flop. I did think of chk/r flop but these guys don't fold a lot down here in the trenches.
And yes I do think villain has a high chance of the J.with that cbet size.

Is my play ok or should I bet turn? I get tank/folds from the Jx hands now quite often but do I want that?

River I think I should bet and try to get a crying call.

What do you think of this one guys? Any better plays?

Thanks. Smile

Pre: good.
Flop: you are OOP, so I wouldn't float here OOP on a we flop. I like a check/raise, but mostly I think I would just check/fold. Check/call seems like the worst option to me.
Turn: check/call, since you got here and he can barrel some AdXx FD's.
River: just check/fold if he bets, no point in leading since nothing worse is going to call and you overrep your hand as being a flush.

When I first looked at this I thought the flop float was OK. I did a quick calldown of this spot with my ranges and actually I agree with @guzzlegutz123 that you probably don't need to be defending this combo on the flop. If he sized it smaller then I think it would be fine to float but at 70% psb you can fold it. You have plenty of FDs, OESDs and gutshots, among other things, already defending this flop. If the flop didn't have the FD then it would be a good combo to defend. Like you said there are a lot of cards that can improve you.

I think turn was fine as played and agree that I think I would be x/f this on the river

Ye I'm just trying a few things a little out of the norm as it were, experimenting with IP play from OOP so no biggie if it's too far off I'll just dump it.
The river play was what I was thinking at the time and I did chk.

Thanks peeps. Smile

Nice!. I don't think it is actually too far off. Its probably one of the next hands you would start to pick to defend. I don't think its WRONG per se. Your reasons for defending it are sound. Has 2 cards that give you open enders and 2 that give you gutshots, some of those to the nuts, plus all the clubs that give you a reasonably strong flush draw.

If you have reads on opponent and think you can profitably defend with it then go for it. I would imagine, at 4nl, you have quite a post flop edge over your opponents, having seen your play and knowing you. However, you aren't gonna get exploited by not defending it to that cbet size.

Yeah river is obviously just a bluffcatcher and I don't think I would be using this to bluffcatch against this type of player. Seems pretty tight and somewhat passive, so I doubt he is 3 barreling with anything worse than what you have and doubt he is 3 barrel bluffing, but stranger things have happened.

Good luck out there on the streets bud!!

I'm folding this hand pre flop against this player type, we're going to be up against beter Qx and Tx hands a lot and will get value towned when we hit top pair. QTcc looks nice, but it's not a call oop vs a UTG+1 range imo.

Flop is a fold or a c-r over calling, we have backdoors we can barrel if called.

Agree Harvie, I prefer c/r as well if I really must play this. I'm trying to get to the stage where the hand doesn't matter and it aint easy yet! Cheeky

Thanks all.

Agree with c/r beeing a good option here. You can have more 2p since you called the BB and with your read of him beeing a one and done player it probably directly profitable to c/r.

Don't mind the call pre against some opponents as long as you don't get carried away postflop. You say in your read that he is a one and done player and then call his turn bet with TPWK - This is probably closer than you think against this opponent.Part of calling on the flop against a one and doner is to take advantage on the river when he checks back the turn so often. This time he doesn't check back the turn but bets around 70% of pot. Def a check fold on the river and against him I might even be tempted to fold turn.

Yes, another good point, thank you.

I watch better players doing this stuff but only get a part of the whole picture most times, so when I do it, it goes a bit tits up a lot! Blush

Thanks again everybody, much appreciated.

Every now and again , have a session where you put a post it note on your screen that says "Bet river versus missed turn cbets". You will be surprised how often your bet works. When you start forcing yourself to look out for this specific spot, after practice it becomes natural and you soon get an instant feel of where and when you should do it and it becomes as natural as 3betting AA.
